For the SSD to be recognised, its file system must be either FAT32 or NTFS, these are the only two hard drive file systems which are compatible with Windows 7 SP1.
While the SSD is connected via USB, please check in both the Device Manager and in Disk Management whether or not the SSD is detected on a purely hardware level.
This will show whether or not the SSD is correctly configured and the necessary drivers are installed.
Whether or not the operating system can recognise it, will depend on whether or not the file system is supported.
However, you stated that your aim was to update the firmware of the SSD.
According to the revision number you provided, 9904447-742.F00G, you already have the latest version installed on your SSD, 603ABBF0.
Even if it were not, you can only update the firmware of a drive that has been connected internally - drives connected via USB cannot be seen by the toolbox software application.

SAMENGEVAT: SSD schijven zijn alleen zichtbaar als ze FAT of NTFS geformateerd zijn en alleen te updaten met een Windows systeem.
Aangezien ik een recente versie heb is updaten van firmware helemaal niet nodig.
OK, bedankt voor de info! Wel jammer dat ze geen generieke bootable iso hebben voor firmware updates, want dan ben je feitelijk OS onafhankelijk.
Ik zal vanavond eens kijken, maar ik denk niet dat ik de laatste firmware heb, want ik heb die SSD in april 2013 gekocht. De vraag is natuurlijk of dat überhaupt erg is; if it ain't broke, don't fix it....
