Hallo beste mensen,

Ik heb een Epson Stylus Office BX310FN printer-scanner-fax die ik aan de praat probeer te krijgen onder 10.04 LTS amd64 via een netwerk verbinding (het apparaat hangt direct aan mijn ADSL modem zodat er niet steeds een PC aan hoeft te staan er er toch met verschillende laptops (wireless) verbinding gemaakt kan worden.

Printen geen probleem, scannen wel. De scanner wordt wel herkend:

Vervolgens wordt de scanner NIET meer herkend en moet ik hem uit en aan zetten om hem weer te laten herkennen. Ik heb op mijn systeem geen .service files gevonden en hier loop ik dus vast.

Als front-end heb ik ook Xsane geprobeerd maar met hetzelfde resultaat. Het probleem zal dus ergens in de backend liggen vermoed ik zo, maar ik ben geen expert op dit gebied.

Wie o wie kan mij helpen? Of heeft iemand wellicht suggesties waar ik verdere hulp kan krijgen?

Ola,
Misschien heb je hier iets aan: zojuist de scanner voor de Epson all-in-one SX110 (uit andere thread) aan de praat gekregen.
Ik weet niet of het volgende allemaal nodig was, maar:
Ik heb van de volgende site http://avasys.jp/eng/linux_driver/download/ de zogenaamde pips printer driver gedownload en geinstalleerd volgens de instructies.

Dit leek geen effect te hebben en heb toen ook de image scan app/driver of weet ik veel wat het is geinstalleerd. Dit leek aanvankelijk ook geen effect te sorteren.

Toen ik het eigenlijk al had opgegeven en het systeem had gereboot om mijn tijd beter te besteden, bleek mijn scanner ineens wel herkend te worden en te werken.

Wel wat vage zaken/meldingen onderweg: een foutlog in het systeem dat pips niet goed bijgewerkt kon worden en één dat  het al geinstalleerd was etc.

Maar goed het werkt!

Over Avasys: de officiele Epson support page verwijst voor Linux naar hun driver page, dus het is niet een of andere hobby knutselaar.

Dank voor de reactie Darko!

Ook het internationale Ubuntu forum via Launchpad suggereerde om Iscan te installeren. Dat heb ik gedaan en dit heeft het probleem uiteindelijk opgelost. Ik heb wel nogal moeten zoeken om het allemaal goed te installeren, dus geef ik hier de procedure die ik heb gevolgd. Misschien heeft iemand anders er zo ook nog iets aan.

1. Vind de software op http://www.avasys.jp/lx-bin2/linux_e/spc/DL1.do. Selecteer het juiste model.
2. Download en installeer het datapakket: iscan-data_1.0.1-1_all.deb (dubbelklikken is voldoende om het te installeren)
3. Download en installeer iscan: 2.25.0-1.ltdl7_amd64.deb
4. Download en installeer het netwerk pakket, nodig omdat ik naar een directe netwerklocatie verbind: iscan-network-nt_1.1.0-2_amd64.deb

Deze bestanden zijn specifiek voor mijn 10.04 LTS amd64 setup. Andere systemen kunnen andere bestanden nodig hebben.
NB: De bovenstaande volgorde van installatie is belangrijk om foutmeldingen te voorkomen.

Zet nu nog de netwerk locatie vast (bij mij 192.168.2.6):
$ sudo nano /etc/sane.d/epkowa.conf
#commentaar maken van scsi and usb entries
net 192.168.2.6

Start iscan: Toepassingen -> Grafisch  -> ImageScan for Linux

Klaar!

Het is voor mij alweer enige tijd geleden voor een Epson 4180 photo. Wel in Debian.
Vond de interface van Iscan niet geweldig. Heb toen dacht ik epkowa.conf vermeld in ddl.conf.
Daarna kan men gewoon gebruik maken van Xsane. Deze heeft n.m.i een betere interface.
Offtopic: Later toch terug gegaan naar XP, vond de grijstinten onvoldoende in de zw negatieven. (uiteraard wel in VitualBox  ;) ;) )
