Nieuwste Firefox en/of Thunderbird installeren

Hoe krijg je de nieuwste Mozilla? (Dit is al eens eerder gepost, maar het raakt snel in de vergetelheid).

De nieuwste Firefox is de 3.5.6. De nieuwste Thunderbird is de 3.0.
Die krijg je niet automatisch, maar die moet je zelf installeren m.b.v. Ubuntuzilla.

Eerst Ubuntuzilla downen bij: http://sourceforge.net/projects/ubuntuzilla/files/
Erop dubbelklikken en installeren.

In de terminal.
Voor de nieuwste Firefox:

ubuntuzilla.py -a install -p firefox
en voor Thunderbird is dit:

ubuntuzilla.py -a install -p thunderbirdEr worden nog een paar vragen gesteld, bijv. welke taal. Nederlands is NL. Er wordt ook gevraagd of je een melding wilt krijgen van het verschijnen van de nieuwste versie. Erg handig om daar ja op te antwoorden.
En klaar is Kees.

N.B. de instellingen blijven behouden, maar het is natuurlijk altijd verstandig om kopieën van bladwijzers e.d. ergens te hebben liggen.
Na de install verschijnt er een back-upfile in je persoonlijke map.

Updatebeheer komt steeds alleen maar met Chromium updates. Geen FF.

Jongens, het is veel beter om dat allemaal niet te doen, maar gewoon ff te wachten op hetgeen je binnenkrijgt via de automatische updates van Ubuntu zelf....

Er is een reden voor de beperkte vertraging tussen het ogenblik van uitkomen van een nieuwe Firefoxversie, en het binnenkrijgen van die nieuwe Firefoxversie via de updates: het ding wordt eerst grondig beproefd in Ubuntu, en desnoods aangepast om hem optimaal te laten werken in Ubuntu.

Alleen zo hou je een goed draaiend systeem: Firefox (en de Mozilla-engine) is een zeer belangrijk onderdeel van het hele Ubuntusysteem; niet alleen maar een losstaande webbladeraar dus.

Gelukt! wist niet dat ik het gewoon in de lijst kon wijzigen en 'opslaan'.

Nu dus ook nog in die lijst de deb-src wissen.

Yep! kreeg ook direct een paar updates voor Chromium en nog iets, maar helaas nog niet voor FF

O ja, en ik zag ook weer iest verschijnen van een foutbeicht dat ms...fonts een foutcode had 01? Deze melding had ik eigenlijk al eerdere keren ook gehad.
