direct rendering aanzetten...

ik heb een nvidia geforce fx 5200 en ik heb nu xgl/beryl draaien...
het probleem is is dat wanneer ik

glxinfo|grep directintik, hij zegt dat mijn direct rendering uitstaat...

Dit is even off topic en heeft ook niks hiermee te maken.Maar mag ik vragen.Je hebt een geforce fx 5200 wat voor een procesor gebruik je daarbij? en hoeveel Mb heb je? was ik wel benieuwd naar.

ik heb een amd athlon met tussen de 2500 en de 3000 mhz en 512 mb...
2 80 gig harde schijven en een of andere sweex 5.1 geluidskaart. (de onboard geluidschip had ruzie met windows) ik heb een ra 2500 draadloze kaart en dat was het wel zo ongeveer...

hmm, zou inderdaad kunnen dat dat niet werkt, ligt puur aan de manier waarop je Xgl gebruikt en aan de drivers die je gebruikt..
maar als de 3D desktop snel werkt, dan is het echt geen probleem.

Die "direct rendering: no" is normaal onder het draaien van Xgl

Ik weet dat ik een bagger ondersteunde GFX heb, namelijk de onboard SiS M760 (heb al veel problemen erover gelezen op o.a. dit forum), maar is er enige manier om dit toch enig te verbeteren/versnellen? Draai natuurlijk geen Beryl/XGL/AIGLX/Compiz o.i.d. hoe graag ik het ook zou willen

osc4r: vesa driver ondersteunt zoiezo geen direct rendering, probeer sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg en kies voor sis bij het videodriver selectie scherm
misschien heb je dan nog altijd geen direct rendering, maar 2D acceleratie is dan al een stuk sneller... met sommige SIS kaarten kan je ook 3D rendering aan de praat krijgen met DRI, maar niet met allemaal dacht ik... dat moet je zelf maar eens opzoeken met google ofzo, want ik heb niet zo'n sis kaart

ikzelf: dus als je een gewone X sessie draait zonder Xgl heb je geen direct rendering? Vreemd, want zonder direct rendering zou Xgl niet mogen werken
typ eens in een terminalvenster: pgrep Xgl
je zou dan GEEN cijfer mogen zien als Xgl niet is ingeschakeld...

nou ja, ik begrijp er zelf ook niets meer van...
ik gebruik beryl manager om xgl te starten, dat doe ik dan vanuit een gewone gnome sessie.

dat is onmogelijk, tenzij Xgl al draait op de achtergrond
beryl-manager start Xgl niet, maar start Beryl

ik vind het heel maf maar ik zal het proberen uit te leggen.
ik start eerst mijn pc op en dan moet ik inloggen met gdm.
ik log in (met de gewone gnome sessie) en mijn pc start beryl-manager op.
hij opent beryl als desktopmanager en dan doet xgl het.
als ik metacity instel stopt xgl ermee. (in elk geval grafisch)

grafisch... dus dan stopt beryl ermee, maar Xgl draait nog wel.. dat zou ook verklaren waarom je nog steeds "direct rendering: no" ziet

inderdaat ik heb even gekeken bij procesbeheer en hij zegt dat xgl inderdaat nog draait. het probleem is nu: hoe stop ik xgl?

Je kan Xgl niet stoppen en zomaar overschakelen naar Xorg.

Je moet X opnieuw opstarten zonder Xgl
De manier waarop je dat moet doen hangt af van de manier waarop je Xgl hebt ge

EDIT: dat was nog uit de tijd dat ik ubuntu noob was: en volgens mij heb ik verschillende howto's door elkaar gebruikt (weet ik niet zeker)
