Xubuntu herkent High Speed Ethernet Cardbus PCMCIA kaart niet

Ik heb Xubuntu 9.04 beta op een oude Toshiba Satellite Pro 4300 series laptop geinstalleerd.
Intel Petium 3, 667Mhz, 256MB Ram, 10 Gb HD, internet/Ethernet via Silicom PCMCIA kaart.
Tevoren draaide hierop Windows 2000Professional, met probleemloze internettoegang.
Ik heb een thuisnetwerk met een Linksys Router en Telenet (Belgie) kabelmodem.
Ik heb een tijdje geleden Kubuntu 8.10 op een andere PC gezet, die via dezelfde router en kabelmodem en zonder verdere handmatige instellingen probleemloos op het net en via Samba ook probleemloos op het thuisnetwerk raakte.
Ik vermoed dan ook dat het probleem de PCMCIA kaart is. Ik ben tamelijk nieuw in het Linux-gebeuren en weet bijgevolg niet hoe en waar te zoeken naar een oplossing. Mijn bedoeling is deze oude PC later als mediastreamer te gebruiken met een USB WIFI ontvanger (liefst ineens "N" met het oog op de toekomst, zijn er reeds linux compatiebele?), maar eerst zou ik willen weten of deze PC nog bruikbaar is hiervoor en daarvoor moet ik op het net kunnen.
Kan iemand me helpen, aub.

Open eens een terminal en tik dan het volgende commando:

sudo lspciPost de uitkomst daarvan maar eens hier, dan kan er gerichter gezocht worden naar het probleem denk ik.

Ik ben ondertussen nog op zoek geweest en waarschijnlijk is er wel een driver voor de PCMCIA kaart aanwezig. Ik heb de networkmanager op vele verschillende manieren geconfigureerd, mijn instellingen voor de Linksys G router bestudeerd, de router kortgesloten en de PC direct op de uitgang van de kabelmodem aangesloten, geprobeerd of Mandriva ONE 2007 hetzelfde connectie probleem had en dat was ook zo, maar tot hiertoe zonder enig succes.
Wel heb ik gezien dat het MAC address van de PC soms kort in de lijst van de linksys verschijnt en bij refresh dan weer verdwenen is. Op de Mandriva was er enkel "zend" activiteit te zien, niets ontvangen. Tevens is er in de daemonlog nogal eens sprake van timeouts.
Is er geen mogelijkheid om de netwerkinstellingen van mijn werkende PC met Kubuntu in de mate van het mogelijke te copieren naar het netwerk-instellingsbestand op de Xubuntu PC ?
Ik heb Xubuntu ook al eens volledig geherinstalleerd, zonder succes.
Iemand enig idee wat er hier verkeerd gelopen is ?

Volgens mij wordt je pcmcia kaart herkend, en gebruikt. Wat er mis is weet ik niet, ik heb er niet zoveel verstand van.

Zowel in Ubuntu als Xubuntu kan je netwerkinstellingen vastleggen in /etc/network/interfaces

Wanneer je de netwerkinstellingen handmatig zet op dhcp, dan zou er volgens mij het volgende moeten staan:

auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

iface eth0 inet dhcp

auto eth0

Kijk eens of dat zo is?

Je kan ook eens proberen handmatig een vast ip adres toe te kennen, misschien dat dat wel lukt. Dan ziet  /etc/network/interfaces er zoiets uit:

iface lo inet loopback

iface eth0 inet static
address 192.168.1.78
netmask 255.255.255.0
gateway 192.168.1.254

auto eth0

waarbij het adres van de gateway die van je router is, en het adress die van je pc.
