Hoe nvidia configuratie opslaan?

Telkens na het rebooten van mn comp is mn TV disabled. Hoe kan ik de configuratie opslaan zodat ik niet telkens de instellingen hoef te veranderen? Wanneer ik SAVE TO CONFIGURATION FILE probeer, krijg ik dit bericht: Unable to remove old X config backup file '/etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup'

Je moet nvidia-settings opstarten als root. Dus:
- open een terminal
- tokkel gksudo nvidia-settings (of kdesu in kde)

even op inpikken - idd als je nvidia-settings opent als root worden de nieuwe instellngen weggeschreven in /etc/X11/xorg.conf maar bij een herstart van de xserver loopt er iets fout. De bovenste balk van het venster is verdwenen en bij het openen van bv. de terminal heb ik alleen een wit vlak(bij meerdere progjes trouwens) zodat ik de backup moet terugzetten.

Tiens, ik heb dit probleem niet. Ik ben echter wel ook rare dingen tegengekomen tijdens het spelen met de twinview optie, maar dat is ondertussen opgelost. Bovendien zit ik op KDE 4 _zonder_ desktop effecten, dus zonder compiz.
Vind je in /var/log/Xorg.0.log meer info?

Het betreft hier wel een ouder systeem (PIII 733 mhz - 512 MB ram - geforce 4 mx 440) maar ik zie niet goed hoe dat er mee te maken heeft. Als ik in xorg.conf de optie DynamicTwinView "false" bij section screen invoeg krijg ik de resolutie wel goed maar dan werkt nvidia-settings niet meer (logisch)
Met gksudo displayconfig-gtk krijg ik ook de gewenste resolutie. Met nvidia-settings worden wel de correctie gegevens in xorg.conf geschreven maar er loopt iets fout

Je moet beginnen van een _lege_ xorg.conf. Dus de xorg.conf die er stond net na de installatie van uw systeem. Daarna kan je alles via nvidia-settings beheren (ook het instellen van twinview mode en al zijn opties), zonder dat je gaat klooien in het xorg.conf bestand zelf. Dit is ondertussen mijn xorg.conf (volledig met nvidia-settings gemaakt):

idd - instellingen kiezen via nvidia-settings en "wegschrijven naar xorg.conf" aanduiden (je hebt daar ook de keuze om een preview te bekijken) en het progje maakt automatisch een backup van je huidige xorg.conf. Wat bedoel j eigenlijk met een lege xorg.conf (de originele file na install is niet echt leeg )  ;)

Welja, in vergelijking met de versie die meekwam met Dapper is de xorg.conf van Hardy redelijk "leeg" :)
Schone xorg.conf had een betere woordkeuze geweest. Excuses.

geen probleem ;)
maar wat loopt er dan mis. Zoals je zegt, de gegenereerde file van nvidia lijkt me correct (voor zover ik kan zien) en manueel sleutelen doe ik gewoonlijk wel doordacht (klooien vind ik niks) ;)
Momenteel ben ik op een andere machine maar als je wil post ik wel die file van nvidia wel voor je

Ik had een manueel gesleutelde xorg.conf die ik gebruikte in Dapper. Wat blijkt, deze xorg.conf werkt _niet_ in Hardy. Dus ben ik begonnen vanaf een schone xorg.conf en daar via nvidia-settings (niet manueel dus) alles correct configureren (waaronder twinview).

Bon, geen fouten. Wat me wel ineens opvalt is deze lijn:
Virtual    1400    1050Die heb je niet nodig. Virtual zorgt ervoor dat de desktop groter wordt dan het scherm. Dus je kan dan de taakbalk alleen bereiken door met de muis naar boven te bewegen. Haal dit er eens uit.

Maakt blijkbaar niets uit. Fout blijft. xorg.conf generated met "gksudo displayconfig-gtk werkt, die met nvidia-settings maakt steeds dezelfde fout :)
