Since Gutsy I have been using AWN(avant window navigator) which is a dock like app, I have been using it instead of a bottom panel and works very nicely for me. When I went to install it in Hardy I followed this guide:

The problem ISN'T installing it installs the app fine and I can find it in the Applications > Accessories and System > Prefrences but for some reason it just will not start, I have reinstalled and restarted but nothing works.
Then I finally found out that I hadn't enabled compiz fusion. But I can't enable anything here the System > Preferences > Appearances with the desktop effects. Then I tried "metacity --replace" and then when I tried to open awn this error comes up in terminal:

Does someone have A solution. My videocard is an ATI Radeon mobility. I upgraded a nearly clean install of ubuntu 7.10.
When I type in to terminal "avant-window-navigator" I get this output:
