Nieuw in Ubuntu land, heb ik een pc volledig op dit besturings systeem draaien. Internet, openoffice geen probleem. Probeer alleen een media player aan de praat te krijgen en dat lukt niet.

Als ik naar toevoegen/verwijderen ga krijg ik een overzicht van programma's als ik aanvink dan wordt er iets gedownload daarna verdwijnt het vinkje weer.

Wie helpt en wat doe ik fout?

Het probleem van qompagniet lijkt heel veel op het probleem dat ik dit weekend had met het installeren van 7.10 (Ubuntu en daarna Xubuntu) op een oude Compaq PII computer. Alles werkte na installatie vanaf de (gedownloade) cd. Maar ik kon geen enkel programma meer laden, zelfde effect als in de post. De installatie van 7.10 op een AMD 1ghz computer (vanaf dezelfde cd) ging wel goed. Wat de oorzaak is, geen idee. Heb daarna 7.04 weer geinstalleerd (Xubuntu) en kon daarna gewoon weer programma's laden.

probeer eens in de terminal sudo apt-get install vlc en kijk wat voor foutmeldingen er komen, post ze eventueel hier op het forum

Sommige pakketten konden niet geïnstalleerd worden. Dit kan betekenen dat u
een onmogelijke situatie gevraagd hebt of dat u de 'unstable'-distributie
gebruikt en sommige benodigde pakketten nog vastzitten in 'incoming'.

Aangezien u slechts een enkele opdracht gegeven hebt is het zeer
waarschijnlijk dat het pakket gewoon niet installeerbaar is. U kunt dan
best een foutrapport indienen voor dit pakket.
De volgende informatie helpt u mogelijk verder:

De volgende pakketten hebben niet-voldane vereisten:
  vlc: Vereisten: vlc-nox (= 0.8.6.release.c-0ubuntu5) maar het zal niet geïnstalleerd worden
       Vereisten: libsdl-image1.2 (>= 1.2.5) maar het is niet installeerbaar
       Vereisten: ttf-dejavu maar het is niet installeerbaar

een ander pakket. Mogelijk betekent dit dat het pakket ontbreekt,
verouderd is, of enkel beschikbaar is van een andere bron

Als niets meer help is misschien een nieuwe installatie de oplossing.
Na een nieuwe installatie kunnen dingen die eerst niet werken dan wel ineens wel werken.

Een nieuwe installatie lost het vaak wel op, maar kost wat tijd, en je moet alle andere programma's weer opnieuw installeren

Ik heb zelf uiteindelijk voor een nieuwe installatie besloten. En deze installatie lukte wel volledig. Kost even wat tijd, maar minder frustratie.

was geen goed idee, het werkt nog niet.
Voor de zekerheid, download ik alles maar opnieuw en brand een andere CD

volgens mij moet je het een en ander bijvoegen in je /etc/apt/sources.list - het ontbreken van repro's geeft je voorgenoemde fout.

Zo te zien zijn alle softwarebronnen uitgeschakeld. Waarschijnlijk had je geen werkende internetverbinding tijdens de installatie?

Open het bestand:
gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

En vervang de inhoud door het volgende:
