geen opstart scherm en regelmatige crash bij het opstarten

Ik heb met de nodige moeite Xubuntu kunnen installeren op een Fujitsu-Siemens laptop. Nu loopt het systeem wel, alleen bij het opstarten crashed deze vaak een aantal keer voordat het opstarten lukt. Als het lukt, dan krijg ik na de volgende opmerkingen:

niet het scherm wat ik normaal wel te zien krijg. In plaats van een scherm met daarop in grote letters Xubuntu en daarboven een logo, en daaronder een balk die de progressie van het opstarten aangeeft krijg ik een helemaal zwart scherm. Dat zwarte scherm maakt op een gegeven moment plaats voor het inlogscherm.
Nu vraag ik me af of het mogelijk is tijdens het opstarten er een probleem is met de video aansturing wat deze crashen zou kunnen veroorzaken, en wat geen probleem meer is als xwindows is opgstart. Als ik eenmaal ben ingelogt werkt het systeem zonder enig probleem.
Iemand enig idee?

Ik denk echt dat dit meer een hardware probleem is als een probleem met de software. Wat je nog wel kunt proberen is opstarten zonder "quiet splash --". In grub, het opstart menu, kun je op e drukken en dan het stukje met "quiet splash --" weghalen. Misschien dat het iets helpt.

blij je weer te zien!

Ik denk toch niet dat het aan de hardware ligt. Windows loopt al tijden zonder enig probleem, en nu ook nog zonder probleem (dual boot). Wat ik opvallend vind is dat het opstartscherm van xubuntu en het shutdownscherm er beiden niet zijn. Dus ik vermoed dat er iets met de videoinstelling niet klopt. Heb al het een en ander geprobeerd.

Ik heb je advies gevolgt, maar dat heeft niet echt geholpen. Wel zie ik nu meer tijdens het opstarten, net als in de recoverymodus. Aangezien hij steeds op hetzelfde moment crashed ga ik me eens verdiepen in wat logs, kijken of ik daar wat kan vinden.

Ik heb al het een en ander in de messages gevonden wat misschien met probleem te maken kan hebben.

Die opmerking vind ik terug in /var/log/messages, maar pci=assign-busses lost het opstartprobleem niet op.

Ik ga nu in de logs kijken of ik iets raars kan vinden, hoewel ik er helemaal geen verstand van heb. Maar je weet nooit wat je tegenkomt.

Even een paar vragen, heb je via de "beperkt ondersteunde stuurprogramma's" de drivers geïnstalleerd? Zo ja, kun je dan even kijken of in synaptic het pakket "915resolution" is geïnstalleerd?
Zou je het volgende eens kunnen proberen. "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg" en dan kiezen voor de i810 bij het x-server stuurprogramma? Misschien dat dit iets helpt.
Dit kan overigens wel gevolgen hebben voor je 3d instellingen of je video instellingen, je kan dit altijd in de recovery mode terug zetten. Zelfde commando.

Zou je ook de inhoud van /etc/X11/xorg.conf kunnen posten. Dit kan ook helpen....

Volgens mij is dit een resolutie probleem.
Wellicht staat in grub een resolutie die je scherm niet aankan.
Kijk eens naar de waarde VGA=...

In terminal dit doen.

Halo Raggar,
bedankt voor je hulp.
Ik heb geen drivers handmatig geïnstalleerd. Als ik in xorg.conf kijk dan is de i810 driver al in gebruik. Ik heb desondanks toch de xserver reconfigure uitgevoerd, maar dat leverde een klein schermpje op het beeld op. Ik heb xorg.conf.bak weer teruggeplaatst naar xorg.conf. Verder heb ik het pakket 915resolution geïnstalleerd, maar deze kan niet het chipsettype detecteren.  Dit probleem heb ik inmiddels volgens aanwijzingen in output gemeld. Output commando:

Ik heb de optie die je aangaf bij het opstarten tijdens grub ingevuld. Dus op 'e' gedrukt tijdens grub, en vervolgens als kernel optie 'vga=791' toegevoegd. Dat heeft het volgende resultaat:

Het probleem dat is beschreven in dat bericht is niet het jouwe, maar de driver-wissel kan vermoedelijk jouw probleem ook oplossen.

Hallo Pjotr,
de mogelijke oplossing die je voorstelde maakt geen verschil. Ik krijg nog steeds een leeg zwart scherm bij het opstarten als ik quiet splash als opties kies. Verder crashed de laptop regelmatig, gaat plots uit (vaker wel dan niet). Dit gebeurt steeds op hetzelfde punt tijdens het opstarten.
Als ik windows2000 opstart, dan is het splash scherm van windows niet beeldvullend, maar net zo groot als het schermpje waarin de niet grafische output bij het opstarten van linux als quiet en splash zijn gedisabled. (800x600?).
Omdat de computer steeds op hetzelfde moment crashed lijkt het me zinvol om een log van het opstartproces in te zien, en te kijken of dat informatie over het probleem kan geven. Heb je een tip waar te kijken?

Je hebt daarnet al vga=791 geprobeerd. Probeer nu eens vga=788? En als dat ook niet werkt, vga=785.

Ik heb gnome-power-manager geïnstalleerd zodat de computer niet meer opnieuw opgestart hoeft te worden. Als mijn moeder nu de laptop deksel dicht doet, dan gaat ie automatisch in hibernate, als ze de aan en uit knop indrukt, ook hibernate. Beetje omslachtig misschien, maar op deze manier crashed de laptop in ieder geval niet.
Ik heb nu haar hele systeem overgezet van windows naar Xubuntu. Zelfs office loopt als een tierelier. Wat mij betreft mag ze terug komen van vakantie.      Alhoewel... ik heb de draadloze pcmcia kaart nog niet aan de gang.. zal ik daar weer eens naar gaan kijken ..

Iedereen bedankt voor de hulp. Het lijkt erop dat de hardware van de laptop op een of andere manier problemen geeft bij linux die niet bij windows aanwezig zijn.

Als er iemand nog een idee heeft, ik hoor het graag.

Een beetje omslachtig, probeer in ieder geval het probleem nog te achterhalen want je kunt hier anderen ook mee helpen. Zelf gaat me dit boven mijn pet en ik kan je hier niet verder meehelpen. Mocht er niets uit dit forum komen, probeer het dan nog eens op het engelse forum. Er zitten daar meer mensen met misschien hetzelfde probleem.

zou idd fijn zijn als dit probleem opgelost zou worden, maar het gaat mij boven de pet. Ik heb een bugreport gefiled op launchpad. Op het engelstalige forum kon ik zo ook geen posts vinden van een gelijk probleem.
