Uiteindelijk lukt dat idd. maar....
De opgeslagen lokaties komen steeds totaal fout terecht. Dit heeft blijkbaar te maken met de locale setting
De fonts die google gebruikt zijn niet om aan te zien. Blijkbaar worden eigen google qt4 settings gebruikt.
Nu drie methoden (downloaden van googleearth.bin bij google, make-googlepakkage en medibuntu) geprobeerd en eigelijk geen bevredigende methode gevonden. De enige acceptabele die voor mij werkt is de make-googlepakkage met de workaround als hier onder genoemd.

Indeed, the KML format only uses decimal coordinates, not HMS style, so whatever settings you use in GE options, this will affect you.
For instance, if you create a placemark at lon : 1.624801627833013, lat : 47.64969184876774, it will be saved in your ~/.googleearth/myplaces.kml as :
1,624801627833013,47,64969184876774,0
(instead of <coordinates>1.624801627833013,47.64969184876774,0</coordinates>).
When you’ll restart GE, it will try reinterpret the wrong entry as :
1,180,47
leaving you with a placemark really way off…
Het is wel weer allemaal erg omslachtig. Maar ik heb in ieder geval mijn campingsites weer terug (dankzij backup) die waren dus idd na heropenen allemaal vernachelt! Dat google nou niet gewoon een goed werkende GE voor ubuntu kan/wil maken
