Nvidia-driver onthoudt voorkeursresolutie niet

Ik heb een 8600 GT nvidia-videokaart. Standaard verschijnt een resultie van 1024 x 768. Als ik de resolutie in de driver aanpas naar 1280 x 1024 en op apply klik, krijg ik idd deze resolutie. Maar als ik vervolgens deze resolutie als standaard wil instellen via ´save to x configuration file´ (merge with existing file), dan krijg ik de melding: unable to create new x config backup file in /etc/x11/xorg.conf.backup

Als ik vervolgens het systeem weer opnieuw opstart begint in weer op 1024 x 768 en dat wil ik dus niet.  Wie weet de oplossing?

Ge zult de settings als root moeten opslaan.

sudo nvidia-settings

ingeven in de terminal, en dan zal het wel lukken.

Bedankt alvast, maar ik liep al direct fout toen ik de beschreven instructue in de terminal  typte. Na ´sudo xvidia-settings´ en het root-password, kreeg ik deze uitgebreide foutmelding:

Als je echt in het terminalvenster hebt getypt wat je hier schrijft, dan ben je een letter vergeten en krijg je daardoor een foutmelding.
Het is: sudo nvidia-settings
