problemen met resolutie

hoi

srry voor me slechte nl vooraf (nooit normaal school gehad)

keb een nogal irritand probleem met me ubuntu install
version:  ubuntu 8.10

hij start standatrt op in deze resolutie 800x600 kan eentje hoger zijn
terwijl me scherm 15 inc is dus 1024x678 is en de standart ingebouwde resolution changer die in ubuntu zit kan die niet instellen en de enige manier om hem op 1024x678 te krijgen is via de nvidia x server settings maar dat moet ik dus elke keer weer doen alsk hem opnieuw opstart

en de settings van nvidia x server settings kunnen niet opgeslagen worden omdat xorg.conf.backup nie overschreven kunnen worden dankzij dat der geen root password in ubuntu zit (waark me enorm aan erger)

dus wat hebk gedaan de conf die je als preview kan zien in de nvidia x server settings manager hebk over gecopyeert naar xorg.conf via de sudo gedit (location) commands en zo hebk ze gecopy paste aleen da zorgde der voor na de change dat ik zelfs geen windows kon verplaatsen en de terminal was wit (wtf)

dus hebk et lopen restoren in de fail safe terminal\

maar wat nu me vraag is hoe moet ik der voor zorgen dat die standart in 1024x678 start invanplaats de andere

mij boeit het niet hoe maar plz help me met me xorg.conf zo aan te pasen da alles normaal blijft maar da me resolutie naar 1024x678 gaat als die start

Root worden in Ubuntu kan je worden door in de terminal sudo voor een commando te zetten.
Bijv. voor xorg.conf te editen, uit mijn terminal:
gijs@gijs-8:~$ sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf   <--- Hier een ENTER geven
[sudo] password for gijs:           <--- Hier je wachtwoord ingeven wat je bij het inloggen ook
                                                         gebruikt, je ziet geen sterretjes of balletjes, helemaal niets
                                                         Weer een Enter geven nu opent xorg.conf in een editor,
                                                         deze bewerken en opslaan. Hierna opnieuw de PC opstarten.

Verder staat je driver geactiveerd in Systeem>Beheer>Hardware Drivers ?

yupz driver staat geinstald die van nvidia want anders zouwk de nvidia x server manager niet hebben plus ik weet wel hoe sudo werkt aleen waarom ik da zeg dak et haat is omdat het makkeleker is zulke dingen te doen als root want dan zit je niet constand met die rechten ben da erg gewend van windows hehe ^^

Oke je post nog eens goed doorgelezen, kan je je xorg.conf als root opslaan? Of wordt deze steeds overschreven?

uhm de enige manier dak de xorg.conf file aan kan passen is via sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

maar ijgenlek benk opzoek naar een handlijding of zo of iemnand die me kan wijzen waark de orginele aan kan passen zodat die met de goede resolutie kan starten van van de man file work nie echt veel wijzer

maar alvast bedank met et proberen te helpen en ik zal kijken ofk wa heb aan de info die jij me gaf

Probeer het misschien eens zo:

gksudo  nvidia-settings
Als je dit intypt in de terminal kan je je resolutie aanpassen en heb je ook de nodige rechten om je aanpassingen permanent te maken.

gksudo geeft je tijdelijk grafisch rootrechten.

THX maar niet heus nie zit ik weer met et zelfde probeelm diek eerst beschreev alsk de xorg.conf van de nvidia xs settings manager copy paste
moek et weer gaan restoren waark om vroeg waren de regels voor de orginele xorg.conf file die standart word aan gemaakt om em standart te laaten starten in 1024x678

wat ik now heb gedaan is onder de regel

heb ik

deze regel toegevoegt

eerst gaf het wat errors na het uit loggen en weer inloggen aleen toen liet ik hem de backup laden

en dat is uit gelopen in deze xorg.conf file

en om de een of andere reden start die nu wel goed kan mischien ook komen omdat de nvidia drivers niet meer geladen worden en et enige nadeel is dus dak die eerst moet enabelen alsk ga gamen wak nie vaak doe op deze nixbox en dak nie van desktop kan switchen via de middelste muis knop

maark denk dak me hier maar bij neer leg
