Ik zie van alle rare dingen, je gebruikt de vesa driver.  (welke gewoon een failsafe driver is die op elke grafische kaart werkt, en dus ook geen fatsoenlijke prestaties heeft)
dan zie ik dat je een xgl server draait, wat normaal alleen nodig is als je compiz wil draaien voor 3d effectjes alla vista op een ati kaartje met de door amd gemaakte driver.  Alhoewel zelfs hun laatste driver dat niet meer nodig heeft.

Dan zie ik dat je composite extentions in je xorg.conf hebt staan...
Euhm wat ik eerst zou proberen te doen is via restricted driver manager de ati driver proberen te installeren.
Ik ben niet echt een ati kenner, maar soms is de open source driver de beste en soms de closed source driver.
