QDoes it work for Windows or Mac?
ANo, for the moment the client program only works for Linux systems.
QDoes dit work on all of the Linux distributions?
ABecause the hundreds of distribution it's almost impossible to make a client that works on all of them. Linux-Anti-Theft is designed for Ubuntu, Debian, Fedora and OpenSuse and works on both 32bit and 64bit installations. If you use another distro, you will have to make changes to the installation file lat_install.sh manually. Contact us for help & questions.
QDo I have to be a die hard Linux-user to install Linux-Anti-Theft?
ANo, Linux-Anti-Theft is very simple in use. The installation is step by step documented.
QWhere can I download the Linux-Anti-Theft client?
AYou can download the client after login-in under the menu-item "Download".
QWhat does the installation file lat_install.sh do?
AThis installation file makes the client program "lat_client.sh" in the /bin folder of your Linux system. It also adds an extra rule in the rc.local file of your distro; this makes that Linux-Anti-Theft is executed at the start of your system. You can delete Linux-Anti-Theft at any time!
QHelp! My laptop is stolen! What now?
AWhen the thief makes a connection to the internet with your stolen system, this is saved in the database. You can follow this online in your personal control panel. Print this information and take it to the police. Make sure you have the serial number and purchase invoice of your laptop!
QWhat if the system starts without a internet conection?
AWhen there is no connection possible with the internet, there is a new attempt every 10 seconds. From the moment there's a connection, the information is sent, and the attempts to connect stop.

AThe connection to the network is made before you have to login. It is a requirement that the system uses DHCP. QHow many systems can I install the client to?
AThis has no limit. Per system the hostname is also saved. Within your personal control pal you can see the logs of every system.
QWhat use have the personal code and control code?
AThese codes identificate your system, and link them to your account. These codes are unique and you can find them under the menu-item "Personal Information" in your control panel. Don't share these codes with anyone!
QCan I delete the gathered data?
AYes, you can delete the saved IP adresses, or your complete account at any time.
QI'd prefer to host this on my own server, can I?
AYes, you can download the code here. Watch out: this isn't the entire code of Linux-anti-theft.net, but the base to build a anti-theft system for your personal use.
QIs it possible to add webcam images?
ANo, from safety consideration it is not possible. But you can host this script on your own server. You can download the neccesary code here.
