Hallo,

Ik probeer voor de eerste keer een USB-stick maar ik kan hem nergens niet vinden.
Waar moet ik zoeken? Ik heb hem pas nog geformateerd op FAT-32 om zeker te zijn.
(op mijn andere PC )
Ik werk met gutsy gibbon.

Als je een usb stick op een 'ander OS' gebruikt, zorg ervoor dat je de stick veilig verwijderd. (In windows gaat dit dmv het icoon in de taakbalk).
Ubuntu geeft problemen als je stick niet veilig is verwijderd.

Om te zien wat er aan usb is aangesloten kun je het volgende commando geven in een terminal venster:
lsusbVlak nadat je de stick hebt aangesloten kun je het volgende commando geven om fouten op te sporen:
dmesgDeze uitkomsten kun je hier plaatsen voor verdere hulp hier.

Ik kan mijn USB-stick trouwens ook niet vinden met G-parted.
Misschien heeft die wel een hardware fout.

Voor zover ik er iets van ken, wordt de USB inderdaad niet correct aangesloten/herkend. Dat kan op een hardwarefout wijzen. Kan de USB zijn, kan een kabel zijn, kan een USB poort zijn. Sluit je hem rechtstreeks op een USB aansluiting van de PC aan of via een kabel? Probeer eens andere USB poorten van je PC. Probeer hem aan te sluiten op andere systemen.

Het is een USB-stick, dus zonder kabel.
Op een windows PC werkt die normaal.
Andere zaken heb ik al aangesloten via deze USB poort en die werken ook normaal, dus ik weet het niet zo goed meer.

Zit de usb poort waar je op aansluit in je computer of is het een externe, buiten je computer kast? Probeer eens te wisselen met een andere poort.

Ik heb een andere USB-stick van mijn dochter en die loopt normaal. In Vfat.
Raar dat de mijne  op windows wel gaat.
Ik zal een andere moeten kopen.

Ik zie namelijk niet dat je geantwoord hebt op tabasco zijn vraag. ??

Als je een usb stick op een 'ander OS' gebruikt, zorg ervoor dat je de stick veilig verwijderd. (In windows gaat dit dmv het icoon in de taakbalk).
Indien je opslag media gebruikt anders dan EXT2 of EXT3 welke speciaal voor Linux is, zul je die andere Opslag media netjes afkoppelen.

Dus indien je een NTFS,  FAT of anders geformateerde file structuur wilt gebruiken in Ubuntu/Linux en er is geen stopbit gezet zul je het zien verschijnen in Ubuntu/Linux.

Je dus netjes "uitwerpen" of "afkoppelen" of hoe dat ook heet in windo, anders word er geen stopbit gezet en kan je er nix meer mee in een ander soort OS.

Ditzelfde fenomeen zal je zien indien je een dualboot hebt en je windo crasht.
Wanneer je dan Ubuntu opstart zul je ook alle partities die je eerst zag niet meer zien omdat er geen stopbit is gezet.

Ik denk inderdaad, dat het probleem is, dat de USB-staaf in Windows niet "veilig is verwijderd" (softwarematig ontkoppeld). Windows schrijft een stopcode bij "veilig verwijderen", en die heeft Linux nodig.

Oplossing: start Windows op, stop de USB-staaf erin, doe dit keer wel "veilig verwijderen" en trek dan de USB-staaf er weer uit.

Start nu Linux en steek de USB-staaf erin. Waarschijnlijk is er nu geen enkel probleem.

Ik heb niet de indruk dat we hier met een "veilig verwijderen" probleem te maken hebben. Kan je eens, met de USB aangesloten, de output posten van

sudo fdisk -l
mount

zodat we kunnen zien of hij uiteindelijk "gezien" wordt dan wel gemount. Als hij herkend wordt maar niet mount, dan kunnen we proberen handmatig mounten: de foutmelding leert dan wel wat er fout is. Volgens mij wordt de USB hier zelfs niet "gezien".

Wat is het merk en type van die USB? Mogelijk bestaat er zo iets als "niet compatibele USB sticks", die de standaarden niet volgen.

Kijk eens in de /media map. Die kan je zo vinden: Locaties-computer-bestandssyteem en dan /media. Als je em niet kan vinden in /media post dan ff een screenshot. (dit had ik pas ook met mij zen stone, waar overgens bijna niemand op reageerde.)

Nergens is iets te zien.
Bij het uittrekken van de USB-stick heb ik al driemaal een volledige heropstart van mijn systeem gehad. Ik denk  aan een voedingsprobleem. Ik heb een andere stick die perfect werkt en keil deze in de vuilbak zodat ik dit topic kan sluiten.
Toch hartelijk dank voor jullie hulp.
