Dual Screen met 2 verschillende monitoren

Nou, mijn eerste vraag na 1 jaar alles zelf te hebben geprobeerd. Helaas loop ik nu zo vast dat ik het forum moet gaan gebruiken  .

Ik heb een nVidia 8500GT videokaart met aan de DVI aansluiting een Samsung 226BW monitor en op de analoge aansluiting een Samsung 940BW. Onder Windows werkt dit vlekkeloos op de juiste resolutie, onder Ubuntu 9.04 helaas niet. Het 22" scherm werkt op de juiste resolutie, het 19" scherm zou moeten werken op 1440x900, maar komt niet verder dan 1360x768. Ook het handmatig "omzetten" van de resolutie in xorg.conf lukt niet (aangepaste regels worden uitgeschakeld).

De afgelopen maanden heb ik zowel het Nederlandse als Engelse forum afgezocht om de oplossing te vinden, alle mogelijke oplossingen geprobeerd wat ook regelmatig leidde tot een niet meer werkende installatie, maar dat hoort bij de uitdaging.

Mijn streven is om mijn hele bedrijf (marketing / webdesign bureau) op open source te laten draaien, 4 werkplekken. Ik hoop dat er iemand is die de oplossing voor deze 4e werkplek heeft

Heb je het al eens geprobeerd met het programma nvidia-settings? Dat is het instel-programma van Nvidia zelf.
Druk op alt-f2 en tik dan gksudo nvidia-settings in.
In het scherm wat je nu te zien krijgt kan je van alles aanpassen.

Dit heb ik als basis genomen, maar daar kan ik juist die 1440x900 resolutie niet selecteren. De monitor op de analoge aansluiting wordt ook herkend als CRT in plaats van TFT.

Dat is het nadeel van een analoge aansluiting... dan gaat de herkenning wel vaker mis.

Heb je al met de mogelijkheden "separate X server" en "twinview" geprobeerd?

Op welke resolutie draait de andere monitor?
En welke kaart heb je precies? (Hoeveeelheid geheugen zou belangrijk kunnen zijn)

Ik heb een nVidia 8500GT met 512Mb geheugen. De monitor op DVI draait op 1680x1050.

Ik heb zowel twinview als separate x server geprobeerd.

Zou je de "twinview" instelling nog eens willen proberen?
Vergeet dan niet om de instellingen naar het configuratiebestand te laten schrijven. (save to x configuration file)

Zou je daarna het bestand /etc/X11/xorg.conf hier op het forum kunnen plaatsen?
Graag in een bijlage of tussen [code][/code] tags.

Haal hier de HorizSync en VertRefresh regels weg, en vervang die door dit:

Modeline "1440x900@60" 108.84 1440 1472 1880 1912 900 918 927 946Mogelijk is alleen het eerste gedeelte ook al genoeg, dus tot en met het gedeelte tussen de "".
Werkt het uiteindelijk niet, dan kan je de HorizSync en VertRefresh waarden weer terugplaatsen, maar dan wel in de handleiding van je monitor de goede waarden opzoeken.

Eventueel kan je hier ook een andere "modeline" berekenen als je de goede gegevens hebt. Ik heb nu maar wat gegokt met standaardinstellingen.

In dit gedeelte moet je "CRT: nvidia-auto-select +1680+0" vervangen door "CRT: 1440x900"
(Ik ben niet zeker of dit ook noodzakelijk is, omdat je nu in het eerdere gedeelte de instellingen al hebt aangepast. Even proberen dus)

Hmm...ook niet. De resolutie blijft staan op 1024x768 (auto) en 1440x900 komt niet voor in het rijtje. Wat ik al een paar keer gezien heb (nu weer) is dat de aangepast regel vervolgens als "removed option" wordt neergezet. 

Heb je nog meer suggesties?
