Als je de harde schijf gaat bewerken waar Ubuntu op staat, altijd Gparted van de Ubuntu live CD of de Gparted live cd gebruiken, anders kan je de harde schijf niet afkoppelen. Ga je een andere harde schijf, USB harddisk of een USB stick bewerken kan je wel Gparted van de Ubuntu installatie gebruiken. Met de flag of in het Nederlands vlag, geef je aan of het een boot of een andere partitie betreft, zie plaatjes
Tijdens het zoeken door Gparted naar de partities is er een ongeldig argument gevonden, het is moeilijk zo te zeggen wat dit is.
Installeer het programma testdisk eens, dit programma werkt in de terminal en je moet het gebruiken als root. Na installatie open je de terminal en zorgt dat deze groot genoeg is(gewoon maximaliseren) en type
sudo testdisk en geef een ENTER, nu je wachtwoord intypen, hier zie je niets van, gewoon blind typen en geef een ENTER. Dan krijg je dit te zien.
Je kan een van de mogelijkheden kiezen, maakt niet zoveel uit welke.
Na de keuze kan je een harde schijf kiezen en laten controleren :
