drivers voor ati HD4850

Op school krijgen wij les over Linux en voor thuis te oefenen en er verder te leren met werken heb ik ubuntu 8.04 geinstaleerd.
verder is alles in orde behalve mijn grafische kaart, ik heb maar een maximale res.van 1200x... en als ik afmeld wordt mijn scherm groen en dit blijft als ik terug aanmeld en bij sommige app. is dit ook
wat kan ik hier aan doen?

Kijk eerst eens of er drivers staan weergegeven in 'hardware drivers'
Om daar te komen kies Systeem>Beheer>Hardware Drivers
Zie je daar een driver vermeld, vink deze dan aan door te klikken in het witte vierkantje.

Dan is het normaal gezien in orde.
Kijk eens in /etc/X11/xorg.conf  wat daar staat. Plaats die gegevens eens hier. Via Kopiëren/Plakken. Zet het tussen de 'code tags'. Dat doe je zo: voor je gegevens tik je het volgende: open de vierkante haakjes:  [  dan tik je het woord:  code 
daarna sluit je de haakjes  ] 
Aan het einde van je gegevens doe je hetzelfde maar met een / voor het woord code dus zo:   /code
Dan komen al je gegevens in een kader terecht zoals hier:

Sorry voor het late antwoord.
Start de terminal en tik daar in het volgende:

lshw -html>hardware.html
Laat de comp werken en laat de terminal maar open.
Nu staat er in je persoonlijke map een bestand met de naam: hardware.html Daar staan al je hardware in beschreven. Zoek je grafische kaart als je niet weet welke dit is en schrijf die op.
Tik nu in de terminal: (dit werkt niet meer in versie 8.10)

gksudo displayconfig-gtk
Dan wachtwoord en dan start er een venster waarin je je monitor, resolutie, driver of kaart kunt kiezen en instellen.
Kijk eerst eens goed rond voor je wat veranderd. En je kan het testen met de 'test' button.

Ik heb alles gedaan zo als gezegt maar dat helpt niets en ik vind mijn graffische kaart niet in de tab van de graphics cards

Je zal het voorlopig zo moeten laten. Tot een update van de driver. Heb wat gezocht op 'ati HD4850' maar er is zoveel over te vinden...
Normaal gezien is alles voor geconfigureerd. Maar volgens dit topic werkt niet alles goed samen:
