[OPGELOST] WinXP en Ubuntu op één HD: eindeloze boot-loop, help alsjeblieft!

Hallo allemaal,

Ik probeer een dual boot systeem op te zetten van WinXP/Xubuntu  op een Abit BX133 moederbord met 655kB mem en 2 HDD's
- HDD1 is 200 GB en bevat een partitie met WinXP (NTFS), een DATA-partitie (voor beide OS-en; NTFS) een ext3 partition voor Xubuntu en een SWAP-partition in deze volgorde.
- HDD2 is 20 GB en wordt gebruikt voor het opslaan van images van beide OS-en en als backup van de belangrijkste documenten.

Lang verhaal kort: Ik heb eerst XP geïnstalleerd, toen Xubuntu, kon geen enkel OS booten, opnieuw XP geïnstalleerd (om de vrede thuis te handhaven moest dat blijven functioneren) en heb toen geprobeerd door in de LiveCD te booten Grub opnieuw te installeren.

Na het opnieuw booten vanaf de harde schijf, wordt op een gegeven moment "Loading Grub Stage1.5" getoond, waarna het systeem opnieuw boot, in een eindeloze vicieze cirkel.

Ik kon met de Super Grub CD de Windows-boot herstellen. Vraag is alleen hoe ik dit systeem dual-boot kan maken. Hulp wordt zeer gewaardeerd. Dank voor het lezen!

Probeer voor de gein eens te booten zonder die USB stick er in? Ik heb zelf een externe harddisk, die in één bepaalde pc ook zorgt voor een loop in het opstarten. In een andere PC is er niets aan de hand.

Als dit niet werkt, moeten de techneuten je verder helpen.. ik beperk me dan tot nederig meelezen.......

Ik ga het proberen (ga er pas morgen weer mee aan de gang). Ik verwacht er niet al te veel van, want dit is een computer met USB1.1; je kan er niet mee van USB opstarten, dus lijkt me niet betrokken bij opstartproces. Dank voor het meedenken.

Brengt me wel op een ander punt. In de BIOS van het moederbord staat een schier eindeloze rij van opstart-apparaten. Behalve floppy, LS120, CD-rom en LAN staan hier de volgende HD-gerelateerde opties:  HDD-0, HDD-1, HDD-2, HDD-3, SCSI en ATA-100.

Het apparaat heeft namelijk in totaal 4 IDE connectors: 2 standaard, IDE-0 en 1 (primary en secundary) en 2 extra aan de Highpoint 370 RAID-controler: IDE-2 en 3. De harde schijf in kwestie zit ingeplugd op IDE-2 (met de 20 GB-schijf als slave; geen RAID ingesteld), omdat de Highpoint controler hogere snelheden ondersteunt. Ik heb de BIOS dus ingesteld om te booten vanaf HDD-2. Ik weet dat ik ook vanaf deze schijf kan booten door voor 'SCSI' te kiezen, en in de BIOS RAID aan te geven van welke van de schijven ik wil opstarten. Ik weet niet wat ATA-100 doet, maar ik denk dat dat ook werkt.

Vraag is nu of ik mijn probleem zou kunnen oplossen door de opstart-opties in de BIOS te veranderen. Lijkt onwaarschijnlijk, want ik start op van de juiste schijf, maar toch..?

Ik heb het geprobeerd, maar het maakte geen verschil.

In de BIOS van het moederbord staat een schier eindeloze rij van opstart-apparaten [waaronder] de volgende HD-gerelateerde opties:  HDD-0, HDD-1, HDD-2, HDD-3, SCSI en ATA-100.

Heb ze allemaal geprobeerd, weer geen enkel verschil.

Ik heb geprobeerd Grub in de Linux partitie te installeren i.p.v. de mbr (boot-flag middels GParted op de Linux partitie gezet). Nu bleef het systeem hangen na "Verifying DMI pool Data, i.p.v. dat het zoals gebruikelijk rebootte op dit punt.

Ik heb een stuk of 5 boot-opties geprobeerd op de Super Grub Disk om in Xubuntu te kunnen booten, waaronder twee die me in het SGD-forum werden aangeraden. Resultaat: één keer error 17 ("Cannot mount selected partition"), de rest van de pogingen eindigden met error 15 ("File not found").

Ik besef me dat ik niet erg gedetailleerd ben. Meer details over mijn pogingen de dual boot te repareren met de LiveCD hier, en over mijn Super Grub Disk-avontuur hier.

welkom op het forum !

Lukt het om vanaf een Ubuntu-CD op te starten ?  Zo wél wil je dat even doen en dan in de terminal:
- sudo fdisk -l doen om een overzicht te hebben welke partities hij ziet ?
- volgens de handleiding  http://sites.google.com/site/computertip/grub  (hoofdstuk 2) de grub repareren ?
  ( en post best ook wat jij voor root (hd0,?) hebt ingezet )

Als dat al iets redt is het prima, wil je anders via sudo fdisk -l > schijf.txt soms het resultaat posten ?

Start eerst op in windows en sluit deze korrekt af. Dus geen hibernate.

Installeer Grub opnieuw in de MBR.

Verander daarna in de grub/menu.lst eens het UUID door /dev/sda6

Bleek dat de BIOS van mijn moederbord geen harde schijven groter dan 128 GB kon adresseren (schijfgrootte werd in de Highpoint-BIOS wel correct weergegeven op 200 GB). Toevallig vond ik op het net een (niet-officiële) BIOS mod (uit 2005!) die daaraan tegemoet kwam.

Ook toen was het trouwens nog niet direct klaar, want ik moest nog deze procedure volgen om te kunnen (dual-)booten: "Super Grub Disk hangs when embeding stage1_5".
