Ik ben nu fiesty fawn aan het instaleren maar ik wil dadelijk ook beryl draaien!
Mijn ervaringen met beryl zijn zeer slecht (miss licht het aan de videokaart)

mijn computer:

pentium 4 (3.02 Gz)
1024 werkgeheugen
Ati Redeon X700 (512Mb) geen mobility redeon maar een gewone!

vorige keren toen ik beryl heb gebruikt kreeg ik wel beeld maar zaten er allemaal zwart geblokte vierkantjes in!

Help mij er even doorheen!:P alvast bedankt!

in synaptic beryl zoeken en installeren.
ook beryl-manager installeren
ook emerald themes installeren
na installatie beryl-manager opstarten en als window-decorator emerald kiezen.

Ik had vroeger met edgy ook problemen (ook met ati) en nu met feisty lukt het wel.
Ik had nu weer wel het probleem dat mijn vensters geen randen hadden. Ik heb dan emerald geinstalleerd en die
als window decorator gekozen en dan lukt het wel met vensterranden.

Als ik naar je hardware kijkt, moet het makkelijk kunnen? Op edgy had ik ook problemen met beryl, maar niet op dapper of feisty. Gewoon proberen!

Eigenlijk zou het beter moeten werken met de closed source driver van ati en xgl.

Ik ben even aan het zoeken geweest op internet en dit zou moeten werken, ik weet het echter niet omdat ik zelf geen ati kaartje heb.

1. Edit your xorg.conf file:

2. Now download your system’s updates/kernel/and modules:

After this you’ll need to reboot the system.

3. After reboot get your ATI card working:

sudo apt-get install xorg-driver-fglrx
sudo aticonfig --initial
sudo aticonfig --overlay-type=Xv

4. REBOOT AGAIN.

5. After reboot do the following:

SYSTEM > ADMINISTRATION > RESTRICTED DRIVERS MANAGER

And Enable the ATI Driver, then REBOOT AGAIN.

Go to the very bottom of the file and add:

0=Xgl
[server-Xgl]
name=Xgl server
command=/usr/bin/Xgl :0 -fullscreen -ac -accel glx:pbuffer -accel xv:fbo
flexible=true

When you reboot or restart the graphical session, the Xgl server should be running.

Daag mensen zoals vele vindt ik beryl ook zo kix dak da graag wil hebben nou heb ik het ongeveer een week relaxt daaiende gehad.
opeens deed het niets meer ik een volledige reinstall gedaan op nieuw geinstallerd maar pats weer ligt hij er uit.

Mijn systeem:

asus p4p800 E de luxe
maxtor sata 80G drive
intel 2.6 ghz dual met hyperthredding
Ati saphirre radeon 9600 grafische kaart

heeft iemand een idee waar het fout gaat? ik weet dat het een ingewikkeld en experimenteel stukje software is maar wel heel mooi dus als iemand tips heeft graag.

die x700 kaart van ati is echt klote om met linux te werken
ik heb het na lange tijd zoeken wel werkende gekregen maar dat was met de mobility radeon
ik zou denken dat die gewone x700 hetzelfde zou gaan

Hoe krijg ik mbv Beryl, dat je al je vensters kan zien en verdelen op je desktop? Is dat desktop-plane? En hoe hanteer ik die?

Dat is het commando "initiate window picker for all workspaces". Sneltoets is volgens mij F8 en in mijn geval als ik m'n muis naar de rechterhoek sleep.

Het commando is te vinden in je beryl settings manager onder tabblad "Window management" en dan menu "scale". Vervolgens is het dan te vinden onder shortcuts.

Tip: onder "general options" -> short cuts -> screen edges. Hieronder kun je je schermhoeken in stellen zoals in mijn geval "initiate window picker for all workspaces" als ik m'n muis versleep naar  m'n rechterbovenhoek. Hopelijk is het een beetje duidelijk .
