proftpd inlog probleem

Hoi,

Ik ben begonnen met een servertje op te zetten met proftpd.
Ubuntu 10.1 , verse installatie op een aparte test pc.

Het probleem is dat alleen kan worden ingelogd met de inlog gegevens
van de root. (en dat wil ik niet)
Wat ik gedaan heb is het volgende:

proftpd geinstalleerd
nieuwe gebruiker aangemaakt  (b)  met  :
useradd b -p rootpassword -d /home/b -s /bin/false

vervolgens wachtwoord voor gebruiker ingesteld  

a@server:~$ sudo passwd b
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully

Mappen aangemaakt in de home directory:  
map b,  met submappen download en upload

de bedoeling is dat ftp client b, in de hoofdmap b terecht komt, met daaronder
de mappen upload en download.
Maar client b kan helemaal niet inloggen......

Wat doe ik hier verkeerd?

Zoiets zou het moeten zijn: sudo useradd userftp -p your_password -d /home/FTP-shared -s /bin/false

Ik vind het knap als je met proftpd kan werken. Ik vind pureftpd makkelijker. Zelf gebruik ik sshd. Dan heb je meteen een sftp server. Kan het handigste met Nautilus gebruikt worden.
Als je dan een gebruiker aanmaakt in je server met adduser. Dan kan die gebruiker ook op deze sftp server. Let wel op dat je dat goed moet configureren. Anders kunnen gewone gebruikers mappen en bestanden lezen daar waar het niet hoort.
