Ik dacht eerst dat het mede aan Firfox te danken was, omdat die ook nogaleens ineens uitvalt.
Maar met Galeon gebeurde het ook.

Ineens bevriest het hele scherm, muis werkt niet meer, toetsenbord ook niet.
Dan verschijnen er allemaal gekleurde verticale streepjes, waarna het scherm op zwart gaat en een seconde of 2-3 later krijg ik het inlogscherm weer.
Vandeweek gebeurde dit een keer of 5 in evenzoveel minuten. Vandaag, tot nu toe twee keer.
Geen error-berichten of wat dan ook, gewoon elke keer weer dat inlogscherm.

Firefox heb ik opnieuw geïnstalleerd, maar dat hielp dus niet.
Ergens anders op het forum las ik dat het commando "sudo apt-get remove powernowd" wellicht zou helpen.
Ook dat bracht geen verandering.

Toch lijkt het wel alsof het met de browser te maken heeft, want als die niet aanstaat loopt het systeem ook niet vast.
Dat heb ik tenminste nog niet meegemaakt.

Verder kon ik op dit forum, en verder op het net, niets vinden wat hierop lijkt, maar misschien dat iemand hier toch de oplossing weet.

Ik ben voorlopig nog lerende wat Linux betreft, net begonnen, dus ik heb echt geen idee meer waar ik het zou moeten zoeken.

wilt u firefox opstarten via de terminal, en proberen het resultaat de posten hier, dat zal misschien mogelijk zijn, misschien ook niet omdat uw systeem vastloopt. geeft firefox daarna een melding sessie herstellen? komt firefox voor in het procesbeheer? ook als u firefox niet actief heeft?
wilt u de inhoud van uw systemlog hier posten.
verder wilt u de uitkomst van  top  hier posten.

Als second opinion:
Mij lijkt het dat er grafisch iets niet klopt. Wat is je grafische kaart post je /etc/X11/xorg.conf eens als je wil?

Ik probeerde net al de inhoud van het systeemlog hier te plakken, maar dat werd door het forum geweigerd.

Hoe kan ik trouwens Firefox in de terminal starten?
De inhoud van de terminal na het "top" commando kan ik helemaal niet copy/pasten. :(

Maak een backup van je /etc/X11/xorg.conf
vb 'cp /etc/X11/xorg.xonf /etc/X11/xorg.oud'

Installeer eens via synaptic het pakket xserver-xorg-video-intel.

Dan het volgende in /etc/X11/xorg.conf veranderen:

veranderen in:

Ik heb "xserver-xorg-video-intel" via Synaptic geïnstalleerd.

Ik heb een backup gemaakt dmv "sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorg.conf.backup"
Dit command werkte wel.
En ik heb 'i810' veranderd naar 'intel' dmv "gksudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf"

Ik kan er op dit moment nog niks van zeggen of het heeft gewerkt.
De vastlopers komen/kwamen niet op commando. ;)

Ik laat het nog wel ff weten.

@Blazt: Dat betekent wel een complete herinstallatie van Ubuntu, met die nieuwe CD-speler.... Want de rare storingen die je ervaart, kunnen goed zijn veroorzaakt door een slecht werkende CD-speler (corrupte installatie).

Bij de nieuwe installatie: laat de i810 driver gewoon zo staan voor je videokaart..... Intel videokaarten werken uit-de-doos altijd met de juiste driver, want de Intel drivers zitten al in de Linuxkernel (alle Intel drivers zijn open-bron).

Is dat nog op een of andere manier te testen, want zo op 't eerste gezicht doet-ie 't prima.
Laatst Ubuntu mee geïnstalleerd (yay!!!) en muziek afspelen geeft verder ook geen probleem.
