Na lang en veel zoeken zonder succes leg ik mijn probleem aan jullie voor:
Ik heb enkele weken geleden 2 van mijn laptops (Dell Inspiron 4100 en HP Omnibook) dualboot gemaakt met WinXP en Ubuntu 8.10.
Bijna alles lukt al onder Ubuntu, alleen de externe usb schijf (Samsung Pleomax 200 Gig met NTSF indeling) krijg ik onder niet 8.10 aan de gang.
De usb zit direct in de laptop (de Dell op usb 1.1, de HP op usb 2) op beide app zie ik de controlelampjes knipperen.
Als de usb verbinding gemaakt is voordat de laptop start krijg ik bij Locaties/Computer wel het Icoon USB schijf te zien maar kan ik niet mounten.
Als ik de usb schijf uitzet en weer aan komt hij niet meer terug in het overzicht, dan moet eerst Ubuntu opnieuw starten.
de Storage Device manager loopt deze vast en is niet af te sluiten (blijft grijs) totdat ik usb schijf uitzet.
Bij Verwisselbare stations en Media heb ik geen tabblad voor de usb schijven, wel de 4 andere tabbladen.
Als ik de usb schijf vervang door een usb stick koppelt deze wel automatisch aan en kan ik ook normaal afkoppelen.
Als ik de Live CD van Jan Stedehouder (Ubuntu 7.04) gebruik werkt de usb schijf wel normaal.
Bij gebruikers en groepen heb ik alle rechten aanstaan.
In de terminal zie ik bij:

Wat me opvalt als ik 8.10 met de live cd start dat hij lang op hardware drivers blijft staan en die afsluit met FAIL.
Als ik gewoon opstart met de usb drive aan blijft de oranje balk wel 90 sec. halverwege het derde blokje staan, als ik opstart met de usb drive uit loopt de oranje blak zonder haperen vol.
Usb driver voor 8.10 mist? Bij 7.04 heb ik dit probleem niet. Bij Systeem/Beheer/Hardware drivers en Hardware testen kom ik geen fouten tegen. Bij Samsung vindt ik ook geen speciale linux drivers.
