Matrox Millennium G400 dual-monitor met HP 1730 en HP 1740

Hallo allemaal,

Een paar dagen geleden heb ik een tweede scherm gekocht om mijn desktop uit te breiden over twee schermen. De bedoeling is om de desktop uit te breiden van een HP 1730 monitor naar HP 1740 monitor die er rechts van staat. Ik gebruik een Matrox Millennium G400 video card met de volgende chipset: Matrox G4+MDHA32G AGP. De HP 1730 doet het, maar de desktop wordt niet naar het andere scherm uitgebreid, de HP 1740 zegt: "No Input" en gaat dan in stand-by modus. Ik heb al geprobeerd het in te stellen via de "Screens and Graphics" manager onder "Administration", maar die maakte alleen maar een zooitje van mijn xorg.conf, dus ik besloot dat met de hand te proberen. Ik heb het ook al geprobeerd met Xinerama, maar dat deed het ook niet. Ik weet nu even niet meer welke tutorial voor mij zou kunnen werken, omdat er veel verschillende systemen zijn die het werkend zouden kunnen krijgen. Ik gebruik de standaard mga-driver van Ubuntu 7.10. Als er meer informatie nodig is, post ik dat graag!
Ik hoop dat iemand mij kan helpen, want ik ben er al een hele dag mee bezig en zit nu echt vast.

Ik heb ondertussen ook al MergedFB geprobeerd, maar niets lijkt te werken. Nu las ik op een website dat je een extra driver nodig zou kunnen hebben: mga_hal. Op de website van Matrox staat die driver, maar niet voor mijn versie van X.org... Weet iemand waar ik die driver zou kunnen vinden? Ik gebruik Ubuntu 7.10 met alle updates geïnstalleerd.

Er lopen heel veel postjes hier op het forum over dual screen of dual monitor.
Dus je kan wel stoppen met zoeken op het internet, alles staat zo'n beetje op dit forum .

en anders kom je uit op twinview met mijn naam vind je ook How To's ervoor.

Drivers heb je niet nodig tis geen Windows
Linux werkt met servers, voor iedere functie 1 server.
Dus ook voor 2, 3, 4, 10 monitoren dezelfde hoeveelheid servers.
En dat regel je in je xorg.conf

Allereerst bedankt voor je antwoord.
Ik weet van alle postjes die er op het forum staan, het probleem is dat vooralsnog niets voor mij heeft gewerkt. Ik krijg gewoon geen beeld, ook niet via de tutorial in de link die jij me net hebt gegeven. En zoals ik al zei, op een website stond iets over een driver mga_hal.o die je nodig zou hebben. Als Ubuntu geen drivers gebruikt, waarom moet ik dan toch instellen dat ik een mga driver wil gebruiken in mijn xorg.conf???

Ik heb geprobeerd een andere xorg te maken voor je, want die je hierboven postte is eigenlijk wel een puinhoop.
Ik kan er geen chocolade van maken in ieder geval.

Backup allereerst je nu werkende xorg.conf zodat je die in veilige modes kan terug zetten indien deze niet werkt.

Nog ff rondgekeken maar geen nieuwe mga drivers gevonden.
Dus ik denk dat je mga drivers in Gutsy de nieuwste zijn.

Bedankt voor je moeite, maar helaas doet hij het nog steeds niet. Ik startte de X-server opnieuw op en kreeg een schermpje dat Ubuntu in "Low-Graphics mode" draaide. Je kon of de instellingen aanpassen (waarbij de eerste monitor opeens maar in een maximale resolutie van 800x600 kon draaien) of doorgaan. Ik heb de backup teruggezet, nu doet hi j het weer op één scherm...

Vreemd dat hij gelijk in safe modes ging werken

Dit houd in dat hij geen resolutie accepteerd van 1280x1024,
Verander die eens naar 800X600 ??

EN eventueel de pc rebooten, (uiteraard met het risico dat je met de hand de oude xorg moet terug zetten.

Wat je ook nog even kan doen is "Option "Xinerama" "true" " veranderen naar Option "Xinerama" "off"
Kontroleer ook nog even in synaptic of je die lib wel hebt van Xinerama

Nu maakt hij 1 groot scherm die verdeeld word over de monitoren.

Gewoon beetje bij beetje bijstellen.

Grappige is ook dat ik enkelt maar de waardes overgenomen heb van de xorg die je hierboven gepost hebt en dus zou hij het gewoon moeten doen.

owja wbt die drivers voor je vga kaart ??

Het enige wat ik me kan voorstellen is dat je die nodig hebt om de uitgang van je vga kaart aan te schakelen.
In Windows worden regelmatig dit soort proggie's geleverd om met een gui har die poort aan te zetten, omdat windos dit niet zelf kan.

In Linux werkt dit een beetje anders, maagoe proberen kan altijd

Oké, ik zal kijken of ik alles heb geïnstalleerd en dan probeer ik je xorg.conf nog een keer. Hij geeft me in die safe mode een optie om het scherm opnieuw in te stellen, wat vreemd is is dat hij voor de standaard monitor niet hoger dan 800x600 kan instellen en voor de tweede (die het nog steeds niet doet) gewoon 1280x1024....

Die 1e monitor is eigenlijk niet zo belangrijk die kan je nadat je geboot hebt in de desktop weer instellen zoals je wilt.

Het gaat er nu om dat die 2e monitor beeld geeft
Dat doet hij niet dus misschien dat die waarde 1280x1024 niet goed is.
Probeer eens om die op 800x600 of 1024x768 te zetten in de xorg.conf
Dus voor die 2e geen andere keuzes dan alleen deze 2.


Wat je ook nog kan proberen is deze xorg die ik voor een andere had gemaakt .

Je moet echter wel ff jouw hardware overnemen en invullen.
Deze xorg.conf is ook overzichtelijker.

mja het blijft moeilijk als je zelf niet zo'n kaartje hebt om te testen ......

Ik heb jouw bestandje gebruikt, het werkt nog steeds niet. Ik denk dat sowieso een paar resoluties niet kloppen, maar dat is makkelijk te veranderen. Met de optie Xinerama on startte hij gewoon op met maar 1 monitor in gebruik, bij true startte hij ook op met 1 monitor maar kreeg ik allerlei errors over usb-devices en deed de muis het niet meer, toetsenbord wel.
Dit is de xorg.conf zoals hij er nu uitziet:
