omweg release upgrade

Nu heb ik versie 9.10 op mijn Dell latitude d400. De upgrade naar versie 10.04 is niet gelukt door een ontbrekende driver van de intel 855GM geintegreerde video chipset. Met een omweg wil ik mijn laptop upgraden naar ubuntu 10.10..

plan van aanpak: met sudo tasksel wil ik eerste het server pakket toevoegen. Daarna wil ik de gdm verwijderen. Dan wil ik twee keer 'n release upgrade doen op de commandline. Als dat allemaal gelukt is dan wil ik weer de GDM toevoegen.

Ik heb al een backup gemaakt. Dus dat zit wel goed. Graag wil ik vragen of jij het juiste commando weet voor de commandline om een release upgrade te doen?
Ik heb al geprobeerd om met de netwerkkabel en het commando "sudo do-release-upgrade". Maar dat wilde niet werken.

Dat doe ik door de file /etc/apt/sources.list aan te passen.
Zo ben ik nu ook op NATTY gekomen (versie 11.04 dus).
Openstandaard Evangelist, OpenSource Promotor, OpenData voorstander.

Nee, maar hij is er wel, met aardig wat dagelijkse updates.
Je hebt altijd een idioot nodig, die fouten rapporteert ............

Lijkt me ingewikkeld voor een beginner, maar hoe moet dat dan voor versie 10.10?

Je kunt dit doen met het commando:
sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
Hierna je wachtwoord invullen, dit zie je niet !
Dan CTRL-H (zoek en vervang)
Type daar karmic als zoek argument en vervangen door maverick
Saven en terug naar het terminal scherm.
Dan type je :
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Garantie kan ik niet geven, je loopt een risico, dus zorg dat belangrijke dingen een backup hebben !!!!!

In mijn sources.list staat overal al maverick.
Maar sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade doet dan bij mij verder niets.
Hoe kom ik ook aan de 11.04 op mijn test dextop?

Met hij "doet niets" bedoel ik dat apt-get zegt dat ie niks hoeft te upgraden....

Dat had ik zelf kunnen verzinnen..... zeker te laat op de avond na een week support leveren
op Solaris 2.x, Linux RHEL5.x en HP(s)UX

"natty", geeft dat geen kortsluiting op de comm poort?

Waarom zou dat moeten dan ?
Mijn laptop heeft trouwens geen com poort meer, die worden zeldzaam tegenwoordig.
