Sinds kort (een uurtje geleden dus) heb ik het ram geheugen in m'n pc vervangen; alles verliep vlotjes maar Ubuntu herkent blijkbaar m'n onboard geluids kaart niet meer.
Ok ik dacht van "ik kijk even waar het aan ligt" misschien een probleempje met de nieuwe voeding die ik er ook had ingestoken, dus weer vervangen door de oude.
Resultaat: nog steeds geen geluid.
dan maar m'n oude ram latjes er weer insteken.
Resultaat: weer geluid.

mijn conclusie: het ligt misschien aan het feit dat er 4gb ram inzit en ik maar een 32-bit OS erop heb staat...(domme conclusie :p)
gevolg: nieuwe ram latjes er weer ingestoken en Ubuntu 64-bit erop gezet.

Resultaat: de eerste keer dat ik bootte had ik geluid...daarna niet meer.
iemand enig idee aan wat dit  kan liggen?

Je zou de memtest kunnen uitvoeren die in het grub opstart menu staat. Derde regel in het rijtje.
Is de memtest goed verlopen?
Geef dit commando in de terminal sudo lshw -html > hardware.html dit genereert een html file in je home directory met alle hardwareinfo van je PC/Laptop.Staat je kaart vermeld?

Geef dit commando in de terminal sudo lshw -html > hardware.html dit genereert een html file in je home directory met alle hardwareinfo van je PC/Laptop.Staat je kaart vermeld?

Kan je moederbord met het gekochte geheugen overweg? Niet alleen type maar ook de snelheid van de chips.
Kijk ook even het BIOS na of de "instellingen" voor het RAM gelijk zijn aan de opgegeven specs. Indien nodig aanpassen.

Daarna zien we wel wat onze volgende stap wordt. :)

Moet ik die dan updaten, via de site van MicroStar International (MSI dus :p fabrikant van m'n moederbord) of op de site van Phoenix international ( maker van m'n bios) ??

Meestal stelt de moederbord fabrikant een nieuwe bios ter beschikking. Zo niet zou ik bij de BIOS maker op de site kijken. Hoe je BIOS moet vernieuwen kan je hier lezen.

Ik bedoelde trouwens dat in het BIOS de latentiewaarden, kloksnelheid (van het geheugen) en/of bussnelheid soms instelbaar zijn. Zo moest ik mijn geheugen eens zelf op 533MHz (officiele toerental van DDR2-1066) zetten want het was om een of andere reden ingesteld op 400Mhz (DDR2-800).
Ik had het dus niet over flashen van het BIOS. Maar als de ondersteuning voor het geheugen er niet is, lijkt me dat ook niet zinvol.

een asus P5N-D
kan ik eindelijk m'n 8gb ram installeren en kan ik later nog m'n processor nog vervangen door een quadcore en kan ik wat knoeien met nvidia dual sli enzo.
Heb wel een nieuwe case en nieuwe cpu koeler ook moeten kopen want die medion md 8822 die ik had is met niets compatibel (het moederbord zit aan de verkeerde kant, de koeler past alleen maar op speciale medion moederborden,...)

Misschien kunnen we voor april zorgen dat er wel wat staat of in november. Er zijn al eens standen geweest met ubuntu in gent dus diegene die daar voor gezorgd hebben kunnen we in de toekomst eens aanspreken. Zal er eens naar kijken. Ben zelf niet geweest. Te laat gevonden.
