Hallo beste forum gebruikers,  O0
Heb hier 1 hardeschijf met 2 partities. Waarvan 1 Windows XP Proff en de andere Ubuntu 8.04.
Nou ben ik net begonnen in het wereldje van Linux. En heb alweer mijn eerste probleempje ..
Heb GRUB op mijn mbr geinstalleerd > bij het Opstarten start GRUB gewoon op en heb ik de keuze uit Windows XP en Ubuntu.
Ubuntu start gewoon op zonder problemen maar windows niet = krijg dan de volgende foutmelding (error 21) << die als het goed is betekent dat ( de schijf niet kan worden gezien of gevonden ) Ik zelf denk dat ik er een fout met (hd0.0) is in /boot/grub/menu.lst <
Krijg alleen mijn windows XP werkend als ik mijn XP cd erin doe en ( fixboot,fixmbr) doe. Dan alleen geen GRUB meer :P
Snap zelf ook nog niet precies wat Sda1 is in GRUB > want SDA1 is mijn NTFS denk ik   ???

Windows moet in jouw geval hd (0,0) zijn. En die rare map-aanduidingen moeten weg. Moet dus worden:

Menulijst van Grub als volgt bewerken:
Toepassingen - Hulpmiddelen - Terminalvenster
tik in:
gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lstdruk op Enter

En waarom heb je geen swap-partitie staan in je fstab? Dat klopt niet, die moet je hebben, hoor.

Ik heb het idee, dat je de installatie van Ubuntu op een vreemde manier hebt gedaan. Anders zou je automatisch een swap hebben gekregen. En dan zou Grub niet hebben gedacht dat Windows op sdb1 staat, terwijl fstab ziet dat die staat op sda1. Hoe heb je Ubuntu dus geïnstalleerd?

Had voorheen altijd windows. Heb toen bij het installeren van Ubuntu de keuze gehad. Ze bijde te kunnen gebruiken.. Geen idee wat precies voor de foutmelding zorgde. hier mijn fstab >>

En wat is precies een SWAP-partitie?
Had eerst ook nog een andere Slave HD-NTFS voor games maar die had het begeven

OK, je hebt gelukkig toch een swap.... fdisk gaf dat niet aan, maar fstab wel. Dat is dus in orde.
swap = virtueel geheugen, overigens.

Maar hoe heb je Ubuntu geïnstalleerd? Want het is heel raar, dat Grub de fout maakt met sdb1 (hd1,0) i.p.v. sda1 (hd0,0).

Is een Swap partitie virtueel geheugen?
Moest toch altijd het dubbele van je geheugen zijn? Raden ze aan?
Heb 2GB aan geheugen .. :D

Heb gewoon de installatie van Ubuntu 8.04 gevolgd kon je zoveel GB vrijmaken voor je Ubuntu. Had om te proberen maar 40GB gedaan..
Vervolgens bij de eerst volgende boot had ik GRUB ervoor.
Toen kon ik gewoon simpelweg XP/ubuntu opstarten zonder problemen.
Had 1 master-hd waar ik 2 partities op had (windows ) ,( Ubuntu ) en had een Slave-HD van 80GB om games op te zetten voor Windows. ( mijn slave-hd van 80GB had het laatst begeven ) Misschien de GRUB error omdat ik mijn slave eruit had gehaald?
Ben nog een beginner op het gebied van linux  :(

Ik denk inderdaad, dat het verwijderen van die tweede schijf de oorzaak is van het probleem. Enfin, als je de menulijst van Grub repareert, zoals ik in mijn eerste bericht schreef, dan moet het weer goed gaan met Windows.

Bedankt! :D Had precies hetzelfde probleem. Doordat ik tijdens het installeren van Ubuntu een externe harde schijf eraan had hangen, stond in menu.lst alles op hd1 i.p.v. hd0. Dat kon ik nog wel zelf bedenken, maar ook na het aanpassen van menu.lst bleef ik een foutmelding ('Schijffout') krijgen als ik Windows wilde opstarten. Verwijderen van die twee regeltjes met 'map' loste alles op.
