Ik heb het nog altijd niet voor elkaar gekregen xUbuntu met de laatste nVidia drivers te gebruiken.
Krijg foutmeldingen dat m'n nVidia-driver een lagere versie heeft dan de Xmodule (8774) en vanuit Synaptic zegt hij dat ik al de laatste drivers voor m'n nVidia geinstalleerd heb staan :/ , dus heb maar geprobeerd de laatste (8774) nVidia-driver van de nVidia website te installeren.

Ik krijg nu alleen bij de installatie een foutmeldingen zoiets als deze:
No precompiled kernel interface was found en of ik dan via de ftp van nvidia verder wilde gaan. Dit werkte helaas niet.
Wat moet ik nu dan nog installeren zodat ik die laatste nVidia drivers kan gebruiken?

- In Synaptic zie ik staan dat ik wel gcc 4.0 en linux-headers-2.6.15-27 geinstalleerd heb staan.
- En ik werk nog onder de kernel 2.6.12.10-k7, want daarboven gaat het fout.

Aanvullende vragen:

- Als ik via ALT+SHIFT+F2 m'n X system verlaat, hoe keer ik dan terug? Als ik startx doe geeft hij aan dat X nog op de achtergrond draait.

Met CTRL+F7 ga je weer terug.

Je moet zien dat je het Nvidia spul deinstalleerd dat jij geinstalleerd hebt en daarna onderstaande HOWTO volgen:

Bij m'n beide pc's krijg ik het niet voor elkaar, maar voorheen wel...

- PC met nVidia Geforce 2 (nvidia-glx-legacy) met Ubuntu 6.06.1
- PC met nVidia 6600GT PCI-e (nvidia-glx) met Xubuntu 6.06.1

Zelfs bij gehele nieuwe installatie krijg ik nu dit te zien:

math@asus-amd64:~$ sudo apt-get install nvidia-kernel common nvidia-glx
Pakketlijsten worden ingelezen... Klaar
Boom van vereisten wordt opgebouwd... Klaar
Pakket nvidia-kernel is niet beschikbaar, hoewel er naar verwezen wordt door
een ander pakket. Mogelijk betekent dit dat het pakket ontbreekt,
verouderd is, of enkel beschikbaar is van een andere bron
E: Pakket nvidia-kernel heeft geen installeerbare kandidaat


Lijkt erop dat synaptic achterloopt ofzo?? :/

Zucht... weer precies 't zelfde als wat ik eerst had! :(

De nieuwste verise van de nVidia driver is (wat ik nog kon zien) 1.0.7174, terwijl de X-module versie 1.0-8774 gebruikt.
Vandaar ook dat ik de drivers maar van de nVidia site heb gedownload... alleen ik kom niet verder omdat hij geen pre-compiled kernel interface kan vinden ofzo...

Ik neem aan dat Synaptic een beetje achterloopt, of moet ik wellicht m'n sources.list aanpassen?

Je bedoelt de restricted modules?

sudo apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-k7 heb ik gedaan en is reeds de nieuwste versie.
sudo apt-get update, sudo apt-get upgrade en sudo dist-upgrade gedaan en nog altijd is de nVidia driver 1.0.7174 de nieuwste versie... :/

Installeer het pakket linux-k7 eens, want ik ben bang dat je niet de laatste versies van de pakket installeert. Het linux-k7 pakket installeert altijd delaatste versies. Daarna Nvidia opnieuw starten


Daarnaast zou ik als ik jouw was de volgde regel toevoegen aan je sources.list:

Heb je niet nodig voor dit probleem, maar als je MP3 codecs e.d. wilt hebt je het wel nodig.

linux-k7 en linux-headers-k7 geinstalleerd, nvidia-glx verwijderd en weer opnieuw geinstalleerd, maar het mocht niet baten.
Ik kan nu al denk 2 weken geen Ubuntu draaien op beide pc's...
Ik wil niet gaan smeken ofzo, maar als er iemand is die weet wat ik moet dan hoor ik het zeer graag.
Ben zelfs bereid de (x)Ubuntu-installatie stap voor stap weer helemaal overnieuw te doen om te kijken waar 't fout gaat...

Aha ik zie het al... Je had niet vermeld dat je een 64 bits systeem hebt. Alle 32bits rommel verzijderen en 64 bits modules installeren. Dan zou het moeten werken. houdt ook even onderstaande HowTo bij de hand:

Als het dan nog niet lukt (lijkt me sterk) voorlopig in xorg.conf In de sectie "Device" "driver" op nv zetten, dan kun je in ieder geval werken.
Een dag niets geleerd is een dag niet geleefd!

met suse was het ook al zo'n geklooi om een leesbaar letertype te krijgen met m'n geforce2
Wat me opvalt is dat met de live cd van Ubuntu en Kubuntu je gelijk een haarscherp beeld hebt.
Na de installatie moet je echter van alles uitvoeren om enigzins weer in de buurt te komen.

is maar een voorbeeld. je linux-image moet overeenkomen met de restricted module image voor je grafische kaart.

je hebt amd 64 bits, dus kijk even zoals eendje al voorstelde welke linux image je nodig hebt, daarbij kies je de juiste restr. modules. :)

Aha ik zie het al... Je had niet vermeld dat je een 64 bits systeem hebt. Alle 32bits rommel verzijderen en 64 bits modules installeren.
Hmm, het lijkt me niet dat ik de linux 64bits modules moet installeren wanneer ik met de linux-kernel-k7 werk, toch? ;)

Ik zie nu toevallig ook dat je een hele oude kernel hebt (2.6.12-10-k7) ik heb 2.6.15-27-k7. Is dit niet toevallig de kernel van Breezy nog?

Hmm, ik geloof dat de 2.6.9-x kernel nog van breezy was ofzo. Hoger dan 2.6.12.10-k7 wil niet werken bij mijn pc (AMD64). :/ (zie topic 3459)

Ik heb eindelijk ook de upgrade naar dapper gedaan. De kernel die ik had van breezy had problemen met HAL en udev. Daardoor zit ik nu ook op de standaard kernel van Dapper. Zelf een nieuwere kernel compileren lukt, maar hij blijft hangen op uevents (events gesmeten door udev). Dus mijn PC werkt _alleen_ met de standaard meegeleverde kernel (go figure).

Om X aan de praat te krijgen heb ik wel de voorlaatste driver moeten downloaden: http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_ia32_1.0-8774.html (voor u zal het http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux_display_amd64_1.0-8774.html zijn vermoed ik). Probeer eens met deze, i.p.v. de zaken die je kan downloaden met apt-get. Hoe installeren:
- kernel headers apt-getten die overeenstemmen met de kernel die je nu draait
- pakketje downloaden
- console openen
- navigeren naar plaats waar je pakketje geplaatst hebt
- sudo chmod +x ./NVidia.run
- sudo ./NVidia.run

Enige nadeel van deze werkwijze is, als de kernel ge-update wordt, zal je de driver opnieuw moeten compileren.

Goed nieuws.

Bij m'n Pentium4 pc Ubuntu 6.06.1 opnieuw ge
