Mystras: Xubuntu met eye-candy

Ik ben totaal geen fan van Xubuntu danwel Xfce, maar ik vind deze distro echt heel mooi zeg!
Gebaseerd op Xubuntu 11.10, maar aan 12.04 wordt ook al hard gewerkt, dus het is wel een serieuze distro.

Iemand anders die hem ook gaat proberen?

Vind hem persoonlijk waardeloos ,iets andere iconen en kleurtjes pfffff.
Daarbij ik gebruik Xuby juist voor geen eye candy te hebben ,aangezien eye candy totaal maar dan ook totaal geen nut heeft ,of je moet iemand zijn die meer kijkt als met zijn PC werkt.
Maar goed dat is mijn mening.

Uhm, niet alleen andere iconen en kleurtjes. Ook Compiz, andere thema's e.d.

Inderdaad ook die ,maar dan moet je geen Xubuntu nemen als je eye candy wilt ,daar geeft het andere voor.
Als je dat allemaal wilt ,plus veel mogelijkheden kun je beter Kubuntu nemen b.v .

Compiz op Xfce. Word het niet stabieler van.
Ik weet het niet wat ik er van moet denken.

Zoals Xubuntu het levert, na een paar aanpassingen, vind ik het perfect, beter kan het (voor mij) niet.

Ik heb het geprobeerd en dit is wat ik tegen kwam.

Opstarten ging redelijk en te vergelijken met Xubuntu 11.10.
Na het inloggen was het anders. Het duurde vrij lang tot je iets voor je neus had anders dan de achtergrond. (Inlog scherm is zoals Ubuntu 11.10 het nu heeft maar dan met andere achtergrond.)
Compiz crashed gelijk waardoor je niet meer een venster om je programma hebt.
Het is verder een traag systeem wat zeer onstabiel is.
EFI word niet ondersteund.

Standaard staat er Wine op.
Ubuntu software centrum gebruiken ze en dat is het positieve wat ik vond want verder heb ik niets gezien wat mij echt beviel aan het systeem.
Docky als dock wat niet werkte omdat de iconen niet te zien waren en als je er op klikte van wat je wel zag werkte niet.

Ik weet niet wat ze er mee willen maar het enige wat ze kunnen is een mooie achtergrond maken en verder is het een zeer slecht systeem.
Compiz met Xfce is gedoemd te mislukken. Ik heb het eerder zelf geprobeerd en ik kreeg het zelfde als wat ik nu tegen kwam, een systeem wat zeer onstabiel is en zeer slecht draait.

Het systeem is een afrader. Ze slaan naar mijn mening de plank mis en ze begrijpen heel Xfce niet. Ze hebben waarschijnlijk Gnome2 na te willen maken met compiz waar ze dachten Xfce voor Gnome 2 te kunnen nemen.
Beter was geweest als ze Gnome3 hadden genomen en daar de fallback hadden gebruikt met compiz.
Jammer want het ziet er mooi uit maar ze hebben heel Xfce ver***. Meer kan ik er niet van maken.

Xubuntu is mijn ding en daar komt het niet eens bij in de buurt.
Het is er lichtjaren van verwijderd en het komt zelfs nog na Unity en Gnome3.

KDE is wel een stuk beter gemaakt, en werkt niet met een gepimpte Compiz

Compiz hoort niet bij Xfce. Xfce haalt zijn kracht uit het feit dat het juist geen poespas heeft.
KDE is heel anders en die hebben dat als basis er bij zitten en het zit in elkaar verweven. Bij Xfce is het er los bij gedaan.
Xfce is simpel en zonder al te veel dingen eraan, zo is de basis en daar moet je niet van afwijken.

Maak niet iets van iets wat iets niet is.

Due to a misconfiguration about video card drivers, some people found difficult to start Mystras properly. we are working to fix problem in few hours and update our distro iso on sourceforge in one working day.

I'm sure our work can improve till a stable version, probably we can reach this goal with next 12.04 release.

Remove Compiz and you'll improve this distro a lot.
Xfce and Compiz is for me a big no no. Compiz comes with a lot of bugs and will never run stable.
Keep Xfce as it is meant to be and don't try to make something that it isn't.

we always take careful attention about suggestions and feedback from open source community, that's why we are thinking to release Mystras 12.04  with two different  options at login:

one using xfce only
one using in addition compiz

We think that compiz would be considered to heavy for some computer, but we can assure that we tried Mystras on an old EEEPC ASUS and it works fine.

probably we should share a demostrative video about that
XFCE + Compiz should sound strange, but we are not the only ones who tried this solution and we hope to improve it in the future.


I would announce that we resolved bug about graphic drivers we are waiting that sourceforge gives new mirror to last release ( 11.10.3 )
we added a changelog file also:

- default drivers of graphics card  changed
- Ballista layout for small screens changed

- button added on Docky to hide all windows

we are working to 12.04 release, looking for a different solution about compositing, we tried to merge kwin with xfce, kwin appears to be much more stable than compiz, offers same features and better fit with xfce desktop environment, then we would ask you feedback about this possible solution.

it's our intention to create soon a forum where discuss about new mystras release and its new features

Kwin is much more stable, true. But please, please don't mix WM's. You can try it, but it crashes. Guaranteed. You'll be better off when you offer the Fallback Gnome mode, with some additions.

That's what I think to, it's much more stable to implement Gnome2.3 than tweaking about with Xfce. Just check out SolusOS for an example.

Use Gnome 2.3 or Gnome fallback option.

What is the reason for doing this?
I don't understand why you want to use Xfce for this.
