Omdat ik straks van Ubuntu 7,10 wil opwaarderen naar Kubuntu 8.04 heb ik een goed opslagmedium nodig voor mijn back-ups. Hiertoe heb ik mijn al drie jaar oude doch enige USB-stick in mijn computer gestoken, Terminal geopend en dmesg gedaan. Het resutaat is dit:

Ik neem aan dat ie het gewoon doet: lezen, schrijven, verwijderen?
Als je al een probleem vermoedt, waar is dat dat op gebaseerd (jouw dmesg ziet er goed uit)?

Wat ik hierboven lees voor mij Chinees, en vermoedelijk ook voor andere beginners

Linux ... for human beings ? Wikipedia geeft een mooie uitleg van dmesg waar ik niet veel wijzer van werd. Wat is nu eigenlijk de bedoeling van die procedure ?

Ik wil gewoon begrijpen waarom HermanDegenhart die procedure gebruikt en wat de bedoeling is.
Klaarblijkelijk wil hij "opwaarderen" naar een Kubuntu versie.

Waarom wordt dmesg ingezet bij die overstap ? Waarvoor dient het ?

Dames en heren mede geleerden, hartelijk dank voor jullie input. Mijn sticky is dus nog goed. Ik heb deze nodig om te backuppen als ik straks naar Kubuntu 8.04 wil opwaarderen. Volgens mij kan dat het beste via Terminal. Daar zal ik in een nieuw draadje naar vragen, want als hopeloze simpeling begrijp ik niet alles meteen. Groetjes.

Hij gaf waarschijnlijk de inhoud van dmesg, omdat eventuele leesfouten van de usb stick hierin terecht komen.
Maar opzich hoef je jezelf daar niets van aan te trekken.  Als er effectief iets mis gaat krijg je grafisch ook gewoon een foutmelding.
De meeste mensen weten toch ook niet waar windows bv zijn logs opslaagt dit is net hetzelfde :)
