Ik wil Puppy linux kunnen gebruiken maar de installatie liep niet zo fijn. Ik heb gewoon de installatieprocedure gevolgd. Op een gegeven moment wordt wel het volgende aangegeven:

If your pc has a mix of IDE & SATA hard drives, then GRUB may get the drive numbering wrong. In which case, you may have to manually edit the entry or entries in /boot/grub/menu.lst in the partition where GRUB is installed.
This problem has come with recent Linux kernels where IDE drives are now /dev/sd* , the same letters as SATA drives, whereas before they were /dev/hd*.
GRUB uses "hd" notation for both IDE ans SATA drives, and numbers drives as hd<drive>, <partition> where <drive> and <partition> numbering starts from zero (again different, as Linux numbers partitions from 1).
The problem is that GRUB sees IDE drives first (hd0), whereas if you look at Pmount you may see it listed second (hd1). The Uni. installer uses the ordering as reparted by Pmount, which may be wrong for GRUB!
(Example: if an IDe drive is hd 1,0 (sdb1), may need to be changed to hd 0,0)
En als ik dan gewoon na deze bovenstaande waarschuwing doorga met installeren en Puppy geinstalleerd heb wordt er gevraagd om het te updaten met Universal installer. Daar kies ik voor en dan zegt ie dit:

Find the " menu.lst" file (usually in /boot/GRUB in the partition in which GRUB is installed) and insert this:
title Puppy Linux 501 full install in sdb1
root (hd1,0)
kernel /boot.vmlinuz root=/dev/sdb1 pmedia=atahd nosmp
for your convenience, this text has been written to /tmp/NEWGRUBTEXT
Ik heb weinig verstand van pc' s en besturingssystemen dus snap weinig van bovenstaande. Ik vind het ook allesbehalve gebruiksvriendelijk.
Ik heb 3 schijven, waarvan 1 IDE en 2 SATA-schijven. Als ik naar bovenstaande tekst kijk en ik zoek bijv. naar menu.lst kan ik dat bestand totaal niet vinden op de partitie (harde schijf) waar ik Puppy had geinstalleerd. Ook de tekst in NEWGRUBTEXT is er niet. Die map is er niet.
Heeft iemand ervaring met bovenstaande? Weet iemand hoe je Puppy aan de gang krijgt?
