Knoppix redt harde schijf

Van een oude laptop was de harde schijf kapot en omdat daar nog foto's opstonden vroeg ik me af op die nog te redden waren. Hierdoor ben ik uitgekomen bij Knoppix waarvan ik een Live - dvd gemaakt heb en vervolgens geprobeerd om deze laptop op te starten.

Knoppix startte eerst op in de terminal waar ik niks aan had en vervolgens gereboot en kreeg ik de grafische versie, daarna heb ik er een externe USB aangehangen en alle foto's opgezet.

Ik wist helemaal niet dat dit mogelijk was dat je op deze manier via Knoppix dit zo nog kon doen. En nu vroeg ik me af zijn er mensen die hier ervaring mee hebben? En zijn er nog andere manieren om dit te doen? En  las ik iets over TestDisk?

Hallo Tod,

Ja, je kan soms nog heel erg veel met een kapotte harddisk! Ik ben daar wel eens mee bezig geweest. Testdisk is één van de programma's uit een reeks waar je heel wat mee kan bereiken. Het mooiste was dat de maker van één van die programma's als introductie zei: "Kijk niet gek op als het echt werkt. Ik heb het niet voor de lol gemaakt" En inderdaad.

In één geval was het programma ook zo gemaakt dat meerdere pogingen zinvol waren. Het programma was erop gemaakt alle snippers data die het maar te pakken kon krijgen samen te stellen tot liefst natuurlijk het geheel.

Met ubuntu gaat dit ook.
Xubuntu werkt ook en is misschien lichter.

Nog beter is, Parted Magic, deze is heel erg licht, dus met pc's met weinig geheugen, dan start deze nog steeds vlug op.

Wist niet dat dit met Ubuntu Xubuntu ook kan, maar is proberen dan. Van Parted Magic ook gewoon een live cd maken? En zie dat Testdisk en clonezilla er opstaan, gebruik jij die dan bijvoorbeeld of hoe pak jij het dan aan?

Heb knoppix al een tijdje niet meer moeten uithalen, maar heeft vroeger al veel data gered van vrienden.
Pc wil niet meer, knoppix derin, overzetten naar de nas en voila, pc herinstalleren (op vraag van de persoon windows, alhoewel ik al sommigen op ubuntu heb laten overstappen)
data terugzetten (meestal hun foto's waar ze nooit backups van nemen) en tevreden vrienden.
Dus in 1 woord, knoppix is geweldig!

Ja maar dan eerst nog een nieuwe harde schijf. Ben er nu naar eentje opzoek voor een laptop die niet al te duur, om wat te experimenteren. Iemand toevallig een idee waar deze te halen en wat voor eentje?

(offtopic) net even Knoppix 7.05 cd op een live USB stick gezet en het ziet er aardig uit, het is L.D.E. desktop met en Compiz  en hij draait  soepel en snel.

Dan iso kiezen waarvan je wilt booten.
Alleen dan moet je eerst dag ding kopen, en je kunt ook gewoon met een live cd doen wat wel een stuk goedkoper is toch.

Gewoon met Lubuntu ; zeker van een volwaardige ondersteuning en je kan direct aan alles aan (zeker in het geval van een 'oude' pc of laptop).
Vroeger ook even met Puppy gespeeld; nog lichter maar heeft veel minder tools aan boord
Gubuntu 17.04 wegens verdwijnen Unity binnenkort

Alleen is Knoppix veeeel universeler, het werkte op alle hardware die ik tot nog toe ben
tegengekomen. De hardware-herkenning is veel beter dan  Live-Ubuntu. Verder is er veeeel meer
software op die CD/DVD mede omdat het met een gecomprimeerd filesysteem werkt.
