Bestaat er een Kernel repository voor Ubuntu of Kubuntu?

Hoi,ik heb de volgende vraag.
Ik zou wel eens willen weten of je in de sourcelist een kernel repository zou kunnen zetten.
Weet iemand of die bestaat?.
Nu gebruik ik de nieuwere kernel 2.6.15-27-k7,maar ik wil graag als die er is de kant en klare 2.6.18.1 kernel gebruiken zonder poespas.
Is er misschien al een ubuntu versie?,of moet ik wachten op Edy Eft waar hij misschien wel inzit.
Namelijk ik verwacht dan dat het fglrx probleem dan verholpen zal zijn,en nog meer problemen.
Zo heb ik dus ook een ander probleem met mijn mp3 speler van 512mb geheugen.
Dat werkt dus niet lekker.
Volgens de computer heb ik maar 48kb geheugen in mijn mp3 speler,en dat is natuurlijk veel te weinig.
Onder windows werkte mijn mp3speler wel altijd goed.
Misschien dat mijn speler niet compatibel is met Linux,maar dat lijkt mij sterk.
Ik heb ooit een gentoo Linux gehad en een andere mp3speler,toen had ik hetzelfe probleem.
Kortom het lijkt zo dat Linux altijd problemen heeft met mp3 spelers,terwijl er voor alle andere aparaten wel een oplossing is te vinden om die wel onder Linux goed te kunnen laten draaien.

Ieps,

Edgy Eft gebruikt wel degelijk een nieuwere versie van de linuxkernel (2.6.17.x). Of die nog zal in de repository komen voor Dapper zou ik niet kunnen zeggen... misschien kan je over korte tijd - wanneer Edgy definitief uit is - met de liveCD testen of het probleem verholpen is? Natuurlijk staat niets je in de weg om zelf de nieuwste kernel te downloaden, er een .deb van te maken en die te installeren, maar ik heb niet onmiddellijk een link naar een tutorial en weet ook zelf niet meer hoe :).

Ik heb de 2.6.18.1 gecompileerd op Dapper, maar hij blijft hangen. De kernel config werkte nochtans perfect op Breezy. Pffft, ik heb het opgegeven. Zal wel weer een compatibiliteitsprobleem zijn met hal of udev.

Wellicht de reden dat die niet in Edgy zit... ik doe ook maar een duit in het zakje. Wat ik wel weet is dat je niet hoeft te verwachten dat er een hele nieuwe kernel in Dapper komt. Dat is wat mij verteld is tenminste. Er worden wel veiligheidsupdates en updates die fouten verhelpen uitgebracht voor dapper maar een nieuwe kernel was pas in Edgy weer sprake van meen ik.

Hardware problemen met het niet goed herkennen van je mp3 speler echter, lijkt mij meer een driver probleem.. is daar niet een custom driver voor te downloaden ergens? en fglrx problemen, tja, ik dacht eerst dat het voor iedereen zo zou moeten werken maar uit ervaring blijkt inderdaad wel dat de driver niet voor iedereen even goed werkt. Wellicht heb ik mazzel. ATI zou, net als NVidia, eens wat meer aandacht aan hun Linux drivers moeten besteden. Aan de andere kant, de drivers zijjn er wel, dat kan ik van Sitecom weer niet zeggen.

Als Dapper LTS is, dan horen daar ook nieuwe kernels bij IMHO. Wat is anders het nut van de LTS (= long term support = 5 jaar support). Mensen met recentere hardware blijven in de kou staan, omdat deze hardware pas in een, 2 versies verdere, kernel ondersteund is. Vandaar dat ik tijdens Hoary al een zelfgebakken kernel had. Toen ging dat nog, nu niet meer blijkbaar :(

nog steeds ontopic: mmm, ik herhaal ook maar wat mij verteld is.. maar mijns inziens zijn DE repos toch gewoon de plek waar je kernels vandaan haalt. als er geen nieuwe beschikbaar is dan .. tja, is er geen nieuwe tenzij er backports ofzo gemaakt zijn. Net zoals Amarok lijkt mij, Amarok 1.3 is er alleen voor Dapper, tenzij je de backports aanzet, dan kan je 1.4 installeren.

Ok jongens bedankt allemaal,dan moet ik mij maar even behelpen,ik zal wel even kijken of er een speciale linuxdriver dan is voor mijn mp3speler,we zullen zien wat Edgy dan allemaal aan boord heeft wat betreft kernels en fglrx ondersteuning.
Als die uitkomt als het goed is kan de lancering ervan niet meer lang uit blijven,ik denk dat ze in dit geval de deahtline niet zullen halen,want hij hoort toch omstreeks deze maand uit te komen?,als ik alles goed gevolgd heb?.
Maar ja er waren schijnbaar nog te veel bugs om het groene licht te geven om te lanceren.

Tevens vind ik hier wel wat dingen over mijn fglrx probleem,waarschijnlijk moet ik die cleanen,en dan de nieuwere fglrx erin zetten,maar hoe weet ik niet,als het goed is zou het dan wel moeten werken met fglrxondersteuning.

Ik denk dat uw spelerke op sda1 zit:
[17241520.852000]  sda: sda1
[17241520.860000] sd 2:0:0:0: Attached scsi removable disk sda
[17241520.892000] sd 2:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg0 type 0

Dus normaal moet ie tevoorschijn komen op uw desktop. Anders doe je eens sudo mount /dev/sda1 /mnt. De inhoud van uw spelerke staat dan normaal gezien in /mnt.

Goh wat vervelend allemaal,
kheb geen van de problemen, en alle (diverse) MP3spelers die ik tot noch toe heb aangesloten deden het 'out of the box'...
