Geluid werkt niet

Heb een paar dagen geleden Ubuntu 8.04 geïnstalleerd, maar het geluid doet het niet. De driver die ik nodig heb is "Realtek High Definition Audio" (Windows Device Manager). Op de site van Realtek zijn twee linux drivers te downloaden. Ik wist niet welke ik moest hebben, dus heb ik ze beiden geprobeerd. Beiden geven dezelfde foutmelding:  "C compiler cannot create executables." (Ja, ik heb de nieuwste gcc compiler geïnstalleerd) Hier is de terminal output:

Op linuxQuestions.org het ik een topic over dezelfde error gevonden, maar deze is onopgelost en gedateerd.

Het gekke is dat een vriend van mij precies dezelfde laptop heeft als ik (Acer Aspire 5920) met eveneens daarop Ubuntu 8.04 geïnstalleerd en bij hem werkte het geluid out-of-the-box. Het enige verschil dat ik me kan bedenken is dat ik dual-boot met Vista. Zou dat iets uit kunnen maken?

p.s. Houd er in het antwoord alsjeblieft rekening mee dat ik een noob ben :P . Alvast bedankt! ;)

Er wordt verwezen naar config.log, misschien dat daar nog wat nuttigs instaat?

Dat je vista hebt heeft er niets mee te maken..

Vind het wel vreemd dat die vriend geen problemen heeft (of jij juist wel).

q41, voor hardware info in de terminal sudo lshw -html > hardware.html (Met dank aan Arvid Van Essche) dit genereert een html file in je /home map. Wat staat er precies bij je geluidskaart?

sudo apt-get install build-essential

en je kunt compileren.

Trouwens, als iemand anders met dezelfde hardware wel geluid heeft, ligt het ergens anders. Struin je instellingen af en probeer van geluidsapparaat te veranderen in Volumeregeling.

En bedantk, Gijsbert, voor jouw opmerking om sudo lshw -html > hardware.html te gebruiken. Naar zo'n handig overzicht was ik al een tijdje op zoek :) Bij audio device staat het volgende:

Mooi, bedankt Gijsbert! http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=205449 bleek de olplossing te hebben. Schijnbaar denkt Ubuntu dat ik surround sound heb en het surround sound volume stond op nul in alsamixer...
