22 inch scherm instellen op 1680X1050 lukt niet

Ik heb een nieuw beeldscherm DELL E228WFP.
In de optie : beheer - screens and graphics : heb ik dit beeldscherm teruggevonden in de lijst en ingesteld.
Als resolutie kies ik de door de fabrikant vermelde voorkeurresolutie , d.i. 1680 X 1050.
Vervolgens herstart ik de computer, en dan stel ik tot mijn spijt vast dat de resolutie steeds weer op 1280 X 1024 gezet wordt.
Op zich is dat niet zo erg, maar dit heeft als gevolg dat op mijn beeldscherm alles horizontaal uitgerokken is en dat oogt vanzelfsprekend niet zo fraai.

Iemand een idee hoe ik mijn beeld scherm op 1680 X 1050 krijg ?
Ik heb een grafische kaart NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200.

Eerst kijken of je de Restricted drivers hebt geinstalleerd,ja, helpt het?
Anders: De geijkte methode: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg in het recovery scherm of op ALT-CTRL-F1 of F2,F3,F4,F5,F6 drukken tijdens de start en terug met F7.
Grove methode: Je kan in je xorg.conf de lagere waarden van je videokaart eruit halen.

Ondertussen ben ik geraakt tot volgende situatie:
- via sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg : deze file opnieuw gemaakt en enkel 1680X1050 erin gelaten
- dan opstarten : geeft terug scherm op formaat 1028
- dan via beheer / screens and graphics : kan ik 1680X1050 instellen , en het is OK en ik kan werken met deze goeie resolutie.

Opgelost zou je denken, maar...
--> er wordt dan erg veel veranderd aan xorg.conf (tot daar aan toe...)
--> als ik volgende keer opstart lukt het niet meer ...

Wat ik wel vaststel is:
- bij het opstarten wordt mijn scherm een eerste keer lichtbruin en dan ziet het er goed uit van resoluite
en dan wordt het terug even zwart om vervolgens terug op te lichten in de foutieve resolutie....
Misschien is dat een piste ?

Wat zou ermis kunnen zijn ??

Ik zou niet weten wat er precies mis gaat.
Natuurlijk veranderd er veel aan je xorg.conf, je gaat terug naar de basis en commando regels voor programma's zoals Compiz zijn weg.
Wat je nog kan doen is nvidia-settings je xorg.conf laten maken.
Als je het programma nog niet hebt geïnstalleerd kan je dat doen via Synaptic.
Opstarten in de terminal door nvidia-settings in te typen, verder is het grafisch.
Mijn xorg.conf, misschien heb je er iets aan.

Ik vrees dat zijn originele xorg.conf dusdanig fout is dat Hij aldoor overgaat op de failsafe xorg.conf

Wat je het beste kan doen is de xorg.conf editten en alle resolutie verwijdert die je niet wilt hebben.
Op die manier dwing je hem alleen die ene te gebruiken die wel wilt hebben.
Start hij nog in de verkeerde resolutie op, dan gebruik je de failsafe xorg.conf

Wat nog mooier zou zijn is in veilige modes opstarten dan de opdracht :
sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg
te doen.

Nu opstarten in normale modes.

En nu gelijk kijken in de map /etc/X11/
hier zie je waarschijnlijk een paar xorg staan.

ik heb via nvidia-settings in terminal als sudo-user een nieuwe xorg.conf aangemaakt, en daaruit alle resoluties verschillend van 1680X1050 verwijderd, dat geeft dit

Ik heb het zelfde probleem gehad met mijn Samsung, bij mij werkte het knop je wide bij de monitor instellingen.
ene daarna de resolutie die hoger dan 1680x1050 uit de xorg.conf halen. Bij mij monitor stond 1680x1680 er extra bij.

Het is gelukt door in Systeem/Voorkeuren/Schermresolutie : 1680X1050 aan te vinken.
Dat heeft me drie avonden enkele uurtjes gekost...

Nog een vraagje:
- er zijn een aantal toetsen van mijn toetsenbord die hij niet kent: met name deze die rechts op de toetsen staan en via zouden moeten te bereiken zijn.
- als ik een video afspeel en ik klik op 'volledig scherm' , dan heb ik links een zwarte balk en recht een deel onzichtbaar.  Dat heeft te maken met de verversingsfrequentie, die daardoor blijkbaar op 50 Kz gezet wordt, terwijl het 51Kz moet zijn;  (In feite volgens DELL en Windows  moet het 60Kz zijn)

Patrick_Verbist, wat je toetsenbord betreft welke indeling heb je? VS-Englisch?
Dit kan je aanpassen in Systeem-->Voorkeuren-->Toetsenbord en ook kan je bij het tabje Indelingsopties kiezen voor 3e niveau kiezers etc.
Kan je niet via Nvidia-settings je refresh rate instellen? Heb je de regel Option         "DynamicTwinView" "FALSE" Toegevoegd aan je xorg.conf? Bij de sectie "Screen"

Xenomes , dat was het !! Er was daar nog een knopje 'wide' dat moest aangevinkt worden bij het selecteren v h scherm.
Ik ben eens terug begonnen vanaf mijn xorg.conf file van mijn vorig 17 inch beeldscherm (een HP).  Dan kies ik dus nieuw beeldscherm en in de lijst staat inderdaad mijn beeldscherm : Dell E228WFP. Dus kies ik dat en alles in orde zou je zeggen.....  maar er staat dus in dat keuzevak nog een vakje 'widescreen' dat ik blijkbaar ook moet aanvinken.  Je zou verwachten dat als hij je type beeldscherm heeft, dat hij dan zelf zou weten dat dat een widescreen is....   Maar goed het is tip top in orde nu.
