Ik wil graag thuiswerken onder Ubuntu. Daarvoor moet ik de bovenstaande driver + Java installeren. Kan iemand mij uitleggen hoe dat moet?

Voor het uitvoeren van Java-applicaties kun je het pakket openjdk-7-jre installeren als je die nog niet hebt. Mocht dat niet volstaan is er nog de versie van Oracle, maar die is niet direct vanuit de pakketbeheerder te installeren. Zou je iets meer informatie kunnen geven over wat je probeert te installeren?

Downloading OMNIKEY Drivers
OMNIKEY readers require a PC/SC (“Personal Computer / Smart Card”) driver to be installed.

Getting to the OMNIKEY Drivers
1.     Open the Drivers & Downloads page (http://www.hidglobal.com/drivers)
2.     Select OMNIKEY under the Brand pull-down menu.
3.     Select the Product and Operating System this will limit the number of choices for file download  (it is important to select the x64 bit version of the Operating system at this point, if you have an x64 system)

Linux Drivers
For Linux there is a 32bit and 64bit driver version, please select the right version for your OS to download.
The driver is provided as tarball. Please extract this by using the following command in a console window. Being in the folder, there you saved the downloaded driver file.
  Command: tar –xzvf <Driver filename>

You could also extract the tarball by using the Linux File Manager.
Please install the version according to the README file, which you can view after the extraction.
For any tests of the installation you can start the pcscd manually in a console window and see what the system does, when you connect the reader.

Please use the following command for the manual start of the pcscd.
  Command: sudo pcscd –d –f

After the insertion of the reader into the USB port you should see how the system recognizes and activates the reader.
If you insert a card, then the ATR of the card should be displayed.
If this happens the reader is well installed.
