Als ik de pc opstart verschijnt de balk van ubuntu die verder loopt, op het einde wordt het scherm zwart en verschijnt er een venster met de melding deze modus wordt niet ondersteund  V 36.8Khz H 82.1Hz. Na enkele seconden krijg ik het inlogscherm zonder problemen.
Hoe kan ik deze foutboodschap laten verdwijnen.
Onder windows heb ik deze fout niet, en nog iets in windows staat mijn scherm goed, in ubuntu staat mijn scherm iets buiten de rand aan de rechtse kant.

Dan heb je nog niet de juiste driver voor je videokaart. Post hier eens de inhoud van je xorg.conf ?

Toepassingen - hulpmiddelen - terminalvenster
tik in: gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Dat dacht ik wel. Installeer de fabrieksdriver van ATI eens als volgt:
Systeem - Beheer - Beperkt ondersteunde stuurprogramma's

Na installatie je PC herstarten.

Heb ik gedaan maar nu verschijnt er V 51.0Khz H 91.2Hz en deze boodschap blijft staan en de pc start niet meer op.
Ben nu in windows bezig, heb een dual boot.
wat nu

Dat is vervelend.
Doe eens dit:
haal de Xubuntu LiveCD eens binnen en start je PC daarmee op. De Xubuntu LiveCD koppelt namelijk automatisch harde schijven aan, in tegenstelling tot de Ubuntu LiveCD.

De Xubuntu LiveCD haal je hier:
http://nl.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-cdimage-xubuntu/releases/7.04/release/xubuntu-7.04-desktop-i386.iso

In die LiveCD-sessie, open op de Ubuntupartitie /etc/X11/xorg.conf en verander in de section "Device", bij driver het woord "fglrx" in "ati"

Daarna je PC normaal herstarten. Nu ben je terug bij af. Installeer vervolgens in Ubuntu het pakket xresprobe (via systeem - beheer - synaptic pakketbeheer).

Open daarna een terminalvenster: Toepassingen - hulpmiddelen - terminalvenster.
Tik in: sudo ddcprobe

en post hier eens de uitkomst daarvan?

Goed zo! Zelf kan ik met vi niet overweg...  :-)

Het gaat om de monitorrange (een na laatste regel).
Doe nu eens dit:
Toepassingen - Hulpmiddelen - Terminalvenster
tik in: sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf

1. Verander nu weer de drivernaam van "ati" in "fglrx"

2. en verander de HorizSync en VertRefresh waarden als volgt:

    HorizSync    30-83

Opslaan, sluiten, herstarten.

Beste pjotr123 alles werkt nu perfect en zelfs mijn scherm staat nu goed.
Hoe weet je dit toch allemaal,mijn petje af voor mensen zoals jij, zelf ben ik redelijk thuis in de computer wereld maar over het algemeen in windows omdat dit op ons werk gebruikt word al vanin de tijd van win 3.11.
Ook hebben we nog een minicomputer gehad voor een jaar of 10 en die werkte op AIX een variant op unix, daarom weet ik wel een beetje nog van unix dat ongeveer zoals linux is.
